Indonesia: Avian Influenza, human

The Ministry of Health in Indonesia has confirmed the country's 54th case of human infection with the H5N1 Avian Influenza virus. The case, which was fatal, occurred in a 44-year-old man from East Jakarta. He developed symptoms on 24 June and died on 12 July. The case might have acquired the infection from poultry around his home or the local wet market.

Mainland: Avian Influenza, poultry

The Mainland's Ministry of Agriculture reported an H5N1 Avian Influenza outbreak in the Aksu City of Xinjiang Autonomous Region, affecting 3 045 chicken. A total of 356 976 chicken had been culled.

Sudan: Avian Influenza, poultry

In Sudan, 3 new outbreaks of Avian Influenza have been reported in the Khartoum state. A total of 3 870 birds were affected. The remaining 22 300 birds had been destroyed.

Bulgaria: Avian Influenza, poultry (suspected)

Authorities of Bulgaria reported the first suspected case of Avian Influenza in domestic fowl in the village of Slanchogled, near Kurdzhali. All fowl and turkeys from 3 farms had been culled.

Indonesia: Dengue Fever

Health office in Jambi of Indonesia reported an outbreak of Dengue Fever in the municipality. A total of 77 people got Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever, among whom 4 died.

El Salvador: Dengue Fever

El Salvador Ministry of Health has reported 2 456 cases of Dengue Fever and 76 cases of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever so far this year. Recently, an increase in the number of Dengue Fever cases was reported in San Salvador, La Libertad, and Sonsonate.

Taiwan: Dengue Fever

The torrential rain has caused the dengue vector mosquito index in Kaohsiung City of Taiwan to be on high side. Seven indigenous Dengue Fever cases had been reported since the first case in 6 July 2006. Among whom, 5 cases were reported in Qianzeng and 2 in Qianjin district.

Brazil: Dengue Fever

In Brazil, over 26 700 cases of Dengue Fever have been reported since January this year. The case number was more than 10 times to that of the same period in 2005. Most cases were reported in Rio de Janeiro, Angra and Parati.
There was a reduction in Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever cases in 2006 when compared to the same period in 2005, with 278 reported cases and 23 deaths. Ceara was the state recorded the highest number of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever.

USA : Plague

In USA, a girl from Bernalillo County contracted Bubonic Plague. She was the fourth case of Plague in New Mexico in 2006. In addition, a man from La Plata County of Colorado was confirmed to have Plauge.

Kenya: Leishmaniasis

The Ministry of Health in Kenya has confirmed an outbreak of Visceral Leishimaniasis (also known as Kala Azar) in Isiolo District in Eastern Province. The area affected was Basa in Merti Division. At least 10 cases have been confirmed positive by splenic aspirate. The patients have been admitted to Wajir District Hospital in the neighbouring North Eastern Province.

Kyrgyzstan: Malaria

The Ministry of Health in Kyrgyzstan reported that more than a hundred cases of Malaria cases had been registered in Kyrgyzstan. Kalis-Ordo, Ak-Bata and Ak-Bosogo, where small ponds were located, were the areas of special concern. Cases of malaria were also found scattered in the Chuyskij valley, in Nijniy Ala-Archey, in the Alamudunskiy Area of Sokulukskiy Region.
