Indonesia: Avian Influenza, human In Indonesia, the Ministry of Health announced a confirmed human case of H5N1 Avian Influenza infection affecting a 3-year-old boy from Tangerang of Banten province. He developed only minor symptoms and were treated at the hospital. Investigation revealed that dead chickens were found in his neighborhood, and the boy lived in the same district with the previously confirmed 5-year-old case. Health Officials also reported a suspected case of H5N1 Avian Influenza infection who died on 3 November 2007. The 30-year-old female victim was also from Tangerang as the previous 2 cases and had exposed to dead chickens in her neighborhood.

So far, there has been 222 cases of Cholera caused by Vibrio cholerae El Tor Ogawa strain this year, and one of them died of the disease. Across the country, about 630 people in 23 provinces contracted the infection and 2 of them died.
(Source: ProMED-mail 30 October 2007) Vietnam: Dengue Fever Nearly 80 000 cases of Dengue Fever have occurred in Vietnam in 2007, 68 of them died of the disease. The southern provinces of Dong Thap, Tien Giang, and An Giang were the most affected areas.
(Source: ProMED-mail 30 October 2007) India: Poliomyelitis India reported 304 cases of Poliomyelitis, which was the highest number of cases of any single country in 2007. In the state of Bihar, ten more cases of Poliomyelitis type 3 virus infection were reported in the last week, making the total number of cases affected by this type of virus to 33 this year.
(Source: ProMED-mail 28 October 2007) Pakistan: Dengue Fever The total number of Dengue Fever cases has risen to 11 in Punjab of Pakistan. The Dengue Fever patients' number in Karachi has risen to 1 527 since August 2007.
(Source: ProMED-mail 30 October 2007) Central America and Caribbean: Dengue Fever Belize confirmed 80 cases of Dengue Fever and 1 case of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever since 2007. Most of the cases were in the Corozal district and Belize City. Costa Rica has reported over 24 000 cases of Dengue Fever, 250 cases of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever and 6 deaths since 2007. The most affected areas were Guanacaste, Puntarenas and Limon. There have also been over 60 cases in the capital, San Jose. Martinique announced more than 6 400 suspected cases of Dengue Fever with 2 deaths in 2007 . In Netherlands Antilles there have been 165 suspected and 53 confirmed Dengue Fever, and one Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever case so far this year.
(Source: ProMED-mail 30 October 2007) Africa: Poliomyelitis Sudan reported the first case of Poliomyelitis since 2005 involving a 30-month-old boy from South Darfur. In Chad, 5 new cases of Poliomyelitis were recently reported from areas bordering Nigeria and Sudan. In Congo, 2 new cases of polio were recently reported, one of them was from the previously polio-free Kisangani district.
