Philippines: Rabies, human

A total of 4 people died of Rabies in La Union and Bulacan provinces of the Philippines recently.

Italy: Avian Influenza, poultry

In Italy, 13 outbreaks of H7N3 and H5N2 low pathogenic Avian Influenza in poultry have been reported in several northern regions since the end of May. The affected regions included Lombardia, Veneto, Emilia Romagna and Basilicata.

India: Cholera

In India, 3 people died of Cholera in Ambala on 14 Sep 2007. Besides, more than 50 people complained of acute vomiting and diarrhea, 35 of whom were admitted to hospital. Contaminated water supplies might be the cause of the spreading of the disease.

India: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

In India, an outbreak of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease was reported in Calcutta. Nearly 300 cases were reported in the past 4 days.

Nepal: Cholera

At least one person died and over 200 people fell sick in an outbreak of Cholera in central Nepal. The outbreak was first noticed in eastern part of Chitawan District where the flash floods hit the area and polluted the main sources of water in the village.

Iraq: Cholera

In Iraq, there were recently one confirmed case and two suspected cases of Cholera in the capital, Baghdad.

Brazil: Dengue Fever

In Brazil, there were 438 949 Dengue Fever cases recorded in the first 7 months of the year, which was 45 per cent more than that during the same period in 2006. Over the same period, the number of deaths caused by this disease also increased from 77 in 2006 to 98 this year. Almost one third of the Dengue Fever cases were concentrated in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul, Parana, and Rio de Janeiro.

Honduras: Dengue Fever

In Honduras, 18 000 persons have contracted Dengue Fever so far this year, which is five-fold of that in 2006. For Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever, 895 cases were reported in 2007, which is a 20-fold increase from that in 2006.

Uganda: Cholera

In Uganda, an outbreak of Cholera in Nyadri has killed one person and left 8 others hospitalized. Investigation showed that the outbreak might come from the Democratic Republic of the Congo where some cases contracted the disease after attending the funeral of a Cholera case.

Georgia: Brucellosis

In Georgia, Brucellosis has spread among cattle in the Lagodechi region which borders on Azerbaijan. The disease also infected 26 people.

Kyrgyzstan: Anthrax, human

In Kyrgyzstan, 2 people from a village in Osh region were hospitalized because of contracted Anthrax.
