Indonesia: Chikungunya Fever

In Indonesia, 524 cases of Chikungunya Fever were reported in Makmur City of Sulawesi in the first 5 months of this year.

Macao SAR: Enterovirus 71 infection

Ten more enterovirus cases were confirmed in Macao SAR bringing the total number to 283 so far. Of the new cases, 4 were detected in the same class of a local creche. So far 34 have been confirmed as Enterovirus 71 infections. Most of the enterovirus patients were children enrolled in local creches and primary schools. None of the patients was in serious condition.

Thailand: Dengue Fever

As of 23 May, there were 13 943 cases of Dengue Fever in Thailand this year, with 16 deaths. Bangkok recorded the highest number of cases, with 1 966 cases of the disease.

Singapore: Dengue Fever

As of 24 May 2008, Singapore recorded 2 087 Dengue Fever and 33 Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever cases this year.

Uganda: Hepatitis E

In Uganda, an outbreak of Hepatitis E affecting 1 797 people with 35 deaths was reported in Kitgum district. The disease was thought to be imported from neighbouring Sudan.

Angola: African Trypanosomiasis

Angola reported 14 new cases of African Trypanosomiasis over the last 5 months in Kambambe Municipality, northern Kwanza Norte Province. There has been a reduction of 16 cases in comparison to the same period of last year.

Madagascar: Schistosomiasis

In d'Amoron'i Mania region of Madagascar, 12 469 patients were treated for Schistosomiasis last year. The region with a population of 25 000 is an endemic area for the disease.
