Indonesia: Avian Influenza, human

In Indonesia, the Ministry of Health announced another fatal human case of Avian Influenza infection. The victim was a 19-year-old man from Tangerang town in the outskirts of Jakarta. Up to now, 112 fatal human cases have been reported in the country.

Indonesia: Cholera [Update 1]

In West Papua of Indonesia, the outbreak of Cholera which began in April this year had already killed at least 172 people.

Malaysia: Malaria

In Sarawak of Malaysia, an outbreak of Malaria affecting 21 people was reported in Bario Highlands.

Singapore: Chikungunya Fever

The Ministry of Health of Singapore reported the 48th case of Chikungunya Fever of the country this year. The victim was a 60-year-old woman who had not travelled overseas recently. Seventeen out of the 48 cases were infected by local transmission.

Vietnam: Cholera

In Vietnam, 4 143 cases of acute diarrhoea and 649 cases of Cholera have been reported in the country since the beginning of this year.

India: Avian Influenza, bird

In India, more than 100 000 deaths among birds due to Avian Influenza were reported in West Bengal. In addition, five people experiencing symptoms similar to bird flu have been quarantined. Tests for bird flu have been done on them, the results are pending.

India: Cholera

In India, an outbreak of Cholera affecting 27 people was reported in Haryana. In Delhi, about 70 cases of Cholera were reported.

Netherlands: Measles

In the Netherlands, an outbreak of Measles affecting 34 people was reported in the Hague.

Africa: Cholera

In Congo, an outbreak of Cholera affecting 103 people including one death was reported in Bouenza.
In Guinea Bissau, 611 cases of Cholera, including 14 deaths, were reported in the country so far this year. More than half of the cases were reported in July.
In Nigeria, an outbreak of Cholera was reported in Kaduna State.

South Africa: Rabies, animals

In South Africa, there has been an outbreak of Rabies in dogs in 2 districts in the Eastern Cape, 2 of the cases came from the Ukhahlamba District and 2 from the Chris Hani District. No human case was reported so far.

Brazil: Dengue Fever

In 2008, there are 37 147 and 13 283 suspected cases of Dengue Fever in Rio Grande do Norte and Rio de Janeiro States of Brazil respectively.
