Taiwan (China): Dengue Fever

A total of 511 cases of Dengue Fever have been reported in Tainan city of Taiwan, making it the city's worst ever outbreak of the disease.

Philippines: Dengue Fever

A total of 145 cases of Dengue Fever were reported in Aklan of the Philippines in August alone. There were 3 persons died of the disease and the number of cases has been declining.

Vietnam: Dengue Fever

Around 300 cases of Dengue Fever were sent to the hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam every week. Since the beginning of the year, the epidemic has killed 6 people. The districts in the inner city such as Binh Thanh, Tan Binh, Districts 8 and 11, and others were currently the epidemic areas.

Indonesia: Avian Influenza, human (update)

The Ministry of Health of Indonesia announced the death of a previously confirmed case of H5N1 Avian Influenza infection. The 12-year-old boy from Tangerang District in Banten Province died on 13 October.

India: Dengue Fever

So far in 2007, the total number of Dengue Fever cases reported in Delhi of India were 197 with 1 death. It was much less than what had been reported by this time last year.

Angola: Cholera

In Angola, 34 cases of Cholera including 10 deaths were reported recently in Wako-Kungo region of Cela district in the coastal Kwanza Sul province,.

Nigeria: Cholera

In Nigeria, an outbreak of Cholera affecting 35 people with at least 5 deaths was reported in Bauchi state. Another suspected outbreak of cholera killing 5 people was reported in Benue state.

Somalia: Cholera

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of an imminent risk of Cholera in southern Somalia. Seven new cases have been confirmed so far in the capital, Mogadishu, as well as in Berdale and Burhakaba. WHO said the new cases represented an even more serious threat than the outbreak that occurred 3 months ago and which affected more than 37 000 people and led to over 1100 deaths.

Jamaica: Leptospirosis

Following the flooding after heavy rain in autumn, the Health officials in Jamaica have so far confirmed 100 cases of Leptospirosis. The disease can be spread by food or water contaminated by urine of infected animals like rats.

Mexico: Dengue Fever

So far this year, more than 22 900 Dengue Fever cases including 5 000 Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever cases and 6 deaths have been reported in Mexico.
