Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Brazil: Yellow Fever

It was reported that 15 people have been infected with yellow fever in Santa Catarina State in Brazil.

Brazil: West Nile Fever

The Brazil Ministry of Health reported a case of West Nile Virus infection in the state of Piauí. This is the seventh case of West Nile fever diagnosed in Piauí since 2014.

Cote d'Ivoire reported a total of three new circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) cases this year.

Afghanistan reported an additional case of wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1), bringing the total number to five this year.

Nigeria: Lassa fever [Update]

29 April 2020

Nigeria has declared the emergency phase of the 2020 Lassa fever outbreak over. As at 19 April 2020, the total number of Lassa fever cases was 979, including 188 deaths.
