Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]
20 September 2021
As of 17 September,
Singapore’s National Environment Agency reported 4,148 cases of
Dengue Fever infection.
Nigeria: Lassa Fever [Update]
20 September 2021
The
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reported 4 additional confirmed
Lassa Fever cases including 3 deaths during the week ending in 12 September, bringing the total to 369 cases including 76 deaths, so far this year.
USA: West Nile Virus [Update]
20 September 2021
The Massachusetts health officials,
USA announced an additional case of
West Nile Virus infection, bringing the total to 7 cases so far this year.
Philippines: Dengue Fever [Update]
16 September 2021
As of 11 September, 495 cases of
Dengue infection were reported in Negros Oriental of
Philippine.
Nigeria: Measles [Update]
16 September 2021
During the first 8 months of this year,
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reported 6,718 cases of confirmed
measles including 87 deaths. Another 3,388 suspected cases are being recorded during the same period.
Nigeria: Cholera [Update]
16 September 2021
As of 5 September, the
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reported a total of 69,925 suspected
Cholera cases including 2,323 deaths. Among these cases, 18,132 were reported in Bauchi, 10,187 in Kano and 8,911 in Jigawa.
Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]
14 September 2021
As of 13 September,
Singapore’s National Environment Agency reported 4,100 cases of
Dengue Fever infection.
Brazil: Brazilian Spotted Fever [Update]
14 September 2021
One fatal case of
Brazilian Spotted Fever was reported in São Mateus, Espírito Santo,
Brazil. According to the local health officials, the case was infected last week and rapidly progressed to a serious condition.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Chickenpox
13 September 2021
Twenty cases of
Chickenpox were recorded in the space of a week in the Ilebo territory of Kasai province,
Democratic Republic of the Congo.
South Africa: Rabies [Update]
13 September 2021
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality of
South Africa reported one lethal case of
Rabies infection. The deceased child was infected after being bitten by a dog.
