Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

18 February 2021

As of 17 February 2021, Singapore’s National Environment Agency reported 1,012 Dengue cases.

Guinea: Ebola Virus Disease

18 February 2021

The African CDC reports a total of 17 cases of Ebola infection with 5 deaths in Guinea. Among these, 16 cases occurred in N’Zerekore prefecture, the remaining one in the capital Conakry.

Saint Lucia: Dengue Fever

The Ministry of Health and Wellness in Saint Lucia reported a total of 1,816 Dengue cases including 3 deaths in 2020.

Fiji: Leptospirosis

16 February 2021

The Fiji Ministry of Health & Medical Services has recorded 160 Leptospirosis cases and 5 confirmed deaths nationally.

Argentina: Hantavirus

The Argentina Ministry of Public Health reports that 5 cases of Hantavirus infection including 1 death were registered in Salta province, since the beginning of 2021.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Virus Disease [Update]

16 February 2021

Health officials in Democratic Republic of the Congo reported that 3 cases of Ebola has been detected in the North Kivu Province.

Kenya: Rift Valley Fever

16 February 2021

The World Health Organization reported that, as of 4 February 2021, a total of 32 cases of Rift Valley Fever including 11 deaths have been reported in Kenya.
