Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Bangladesh: Dengue fever [Update]

2 August 2021

Bangladesh reported about 1,000 cases of dengue fever last week, bring the total to 2,895.

Philippines: Dengue Fever [Update]

2 August 2021

As of 3 July, a total of 32,555 Dengue cases with 119 deaths were reported in the Philippines. The total number of cases is 43% lower compared to the same period last year.

Liberia: Lassa Fever

30 July 2021

From 1 January to 18 July 2021, 71 suspected cases of Lassa fever, with 13 confirmed were reported in Liberia. 9 deaths were reported among confirmed cases (CFR 69%).

Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

30 July 2021

As of 24 July, Singapore’s National Environment Agency reported 3,645 cases of Dengue infection.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Yellow Fever

World Health Organization reported two confirmed cases of yellow fever in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Bangladesh: Dengue fever

28 July 2021

Bangladesh reported a surge of dengue fever cases in July this year. 1,954 cases have been recorded this year while 1,573 cases were diagnosed in the month of July.

Saudi Arabia: Middle East Respiratory Syndrome [Update]

Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health reported a new case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), bringing the country totals to 10 in 2021.
