Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

As of 3 December,
Singapore’s National Environment Agency reported 4,979 cases of
Dengue infection.
Costa Rica: Malaria
6 December 2021
Local health services in
Costa Rica reported 138 cases of
Malaria infection during 1 - 27 November 2021.
Malaysia: Japanese Encephalitis
6 December 2021
Health officials in Kedah state in northwest
Malaysia have reported 2 fatal cases of
Japanese Encephalitis infection.
Ghana: Yellow Fever [Update]
6 December 2021
The World Health Organization reported 202 suspected cases of
Yellow Fever infection including 70 confirmed cases and 35 deaths in Savannah, Upper West, Bono and Oti regions of
Ghana during 15 October to 27 November 2021.
Chad: Hepatitis E
1 December 2021
As of 20 November, 377 suspected cases of
Hepatitis E infection including 2 deaths were reported in Lai health district of Tandjile region,
Chad.
Senegal: Rift Valley Fever
1 December 2021
As of 18 November, 3 cases of
Rift Velley Fever were reported in the health districts of Gossas and Diofior of the Fatick region,
Senegal.
Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 26 November,
Singapore’s National Environment Agency reported 4,927 cases of
Dengue infection.
Brazil: Rabies
30 November 2021
A two year old child died after contracting
Rabies from a fox attack in the municipality of Chapadinha, Maranhao state of
Brazil.
Philippines: Dengue Fever [Update]
29 November 2021
As of 23 November, 61,170 cases of
Dengue infection including 216 deaths were reported in
Philippine.
