Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Monkeypox when travelling abroad
Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by Monkeypox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa. It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May this year, multiple outbreaks were reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Japanese Encephalitis, bringing the total cases to 13 this year.
Taiwan: Monkeypox [Update]

The
Taiwan Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the third confirmed case of
Monkeypox infection. The patient traveled to the United States.
Lithuania: Monkeypox

Lithuania recorded its first confirmed case of
Monkeypox infection.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Typhoid [Update]

As of 10 July, 1,021,535 suspected cases of
Typhoid infection including 471 deaths were recorded in the
Democratic Republic of the Congo.

As of 28 July, the
Democratic Republic of the Congo reported 2,266 suspected cases of
Monkeypox including 163 confirmed cases. The most affected provinces are Sankuru, Tshopo, Maniema, Tshuapa and Sud-Ubangi.

During 27 March - 31 July, Democratic Republic of Congo reported 537 suspected
Plague cases in the Ituri province. Among all, 533 cases suffered from the bubonic form of the illness.
Japan: Syphilis [Update]

As of 27 July,
Japan's National Institute of Infectious Diseases reported 6,385
Syphilis cases. Among these, Tokyo has reported 1,881 cases, followed by 805 cases in Osaka.
Philippines: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 16 July, the
Philippines Department of Health reports 82,597 cases of
Dengue Fever including 319 deaths. Number of cases increased by 106% when compared with the same period last year.
Among these, 13,449 cases were reported in Central Luzon, followed by 8,905 cases in Central Visayas and 6,884 cases in the National Capital Region.
Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 1 August,
Singapore's National Environment Agency reported 22,603 cases of
Dengue Fever infection.
USA: Dengue Fever
2 August 2022
In
USA, Florida health officials reported 2 cases of local
Dengue infection and 73 imported cases so far this year. Among the imported cases, 77% visited Cuba.
Laos: Dengue Fever [Update]
2 August 2022
As of 31 July, 13,621 cases of
Dengue infection and 14 deaths have been reported in
Laos. Among these, 7,086 cases were reported in the capital city Vientiane.
Bolivia: Rubella
2 August 2022
The Minister of Health and Sports of
Bolivia confirmed a case of
Rubella in Trinidad, Beni. This is the first case since 2006 in this country.
Brazil: Rabies [Update]
2 August 2022
One case of lethal
Rabies infection has been reported in the Federal District,
Brazil. The teenager contracted the disease in late May after being scratched by a cat. This is the first case over the last 40+ years in the region.
Uruguay: Monkeypox
2 August 2022
The
Uruguay Ministry of Public Health confirmed the first imported case of
Monkeypox in Montevideo.
Brazil: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

As of 16 July,
Brazil has reported 186,170 cases of
Chikungunya Fever, including 75,505 confirmed cases and 40 deaths. Total cases increased by 84.3% when compared with same period last year.
Mozambique: Poliomyelitis [Update]

So far this year, 4 cases of wild
Poliovirus type 1 infection were reported in the north-eastern Tete province,
Mozambique.
Philippines: Monkeypox

The
Philippines Department of Health has detected the first confirmed case of
Monkeypox in the country. The case is a 31-year-old Filipino national who had prior travel history to countries with documented Monkeypox cases.
Pakistan: Poliomyelitis [Update]
2 August 2022
The
Pakistan National polio laboratory in Islamabad reported the 14th confirmed case of
Poliovirus infection of this year. Among these, 13 cases were reported in North Waziristan and 1 case in Lakki Marwat.
Brazil: Monkeypox [Update]
2 August 2022
As of 28 July,
Brazil has reported 978 confirmed cases of
Monkeypox and the 1st lethal case in the country. Local officials said that the victim was already suffered from other diseases, including cancer. Most cases were reported in the states of São Paulo (744) and Rio de Janeiro (117).
Spain: Monkeypox [Update]
2 August 2022
As of 29 July,
Spain has reported 4,298 confirmed cases of
Monkeypox infection, including 2 deaths. Most of the cases were reported in Madrid (1,656), Catalonia (1,406), Andalucía (498), and Comunidad Valenciana (213).
Liberia: Monkeypox
2 August 2022
Liberia confirmed a case of
Monkeypox on 23 July through the National Public Health Reference Laboratory. This is the first case of Monkeypox in Liberia since 2018.
