Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Monkeypox when travelling abroad

Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by Monkeypox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa. It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.

Since 6 May this year, multiple outbreaks were reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Malaysia: Dengue Fever [Update]

14 November 2022

As of 12 November, the Malaysia Ministry of Health reported 51,262 cases of Dengue Fever infection with 35 deaths. The number of cases increased by 131.9% when compared with the same period last year.

Nepal: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 9 November, Nepal reported 51,177 cases and 57 deaths of Dengue Fever.

Uganda: Ebola Virus Disease [Update]

As of 10 November, Uganda has recorded 136 confirmed cases of Ebola and 54 cases died.

Laos: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 8 November, Laos reported 30,085 cases of Dengue Fever and 22 deaths, the number of cases increased by 2300% over the same period last year.

Haiti: Cholera [Update]

As of 6 November, Haiti reported 6,446 cases of Cholera infection, including 639 confirmed cases and 130 deaths.

Taiwan: Cholera

10 November 2022

The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control reported recently the first confirmed local case of Cholera of 2022. The case has no recent travel history. She had recently eaten raw shrimp and oysters.

Taiwan: Dengue Fever [Update]

8 November 2022

As of 8 November, Taiwan reported 71 cases of Dengue Fever infection including 51 imported cases. Twenty nine cases were imported from Vietnam, followed by 8 from Indonesia and 4 from Philippine.

Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

8 November 2022

As of 7 November, Singapore's National Environment Agency reported 29,941 cases of Dengue Fever infection.

South Africa: Measles [Update]

8 November 2022

As of 3 November, 23 cases of Measles were reported Limpopo Province of South Africa, 87% of the reported cases were below 15 years of age.

Vietnam: Dengue Fever [Update]

8 November 2022

To date, Vietnam recorded 292,439 cases of Dengue Fever including 112 deaths.

In Hanoi, 10,716 cases and 12 deaths were reported as of 4 November, the number of cases increased by 3.5 times over the same period last year.

Lebanon: Cholera [Update]

8 November 2022

As of 7 Novemebr, the Lebanon Ministry of Public Health reported 2,709 cases of Cholera infection including 436 confirmed cases and 18 deaths.

USA: Syphilis

8 November 2022

As of end of October, 11 cases of congenital Syphilis were reported by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, United States of America.

Malaysia: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 15 October, the Malaysia Ministry of Health report 46,495 cases of Dengue Fever infection with 28 deaths. Number of cases increased by 123% when compared with same period last year.

Philippines: Cholera [Update]

8 November 2022

As of 15 October, 4,102 cases of Cholera infection including 37 deaths were reported by the Philippines Department of Health. Total number of cases increased by 254% when compared to the same period last year.

The Eastern Visayas reported most number of cases with a total of 2,763 cases.

Philippines: Typhoid [Update]

8 November 2022

As of 15 October, 12,124 cases of Typhoid infection including 56 deaths were reported by the Philippines Department of Health. Number of cases increased by 150% when compared with same period last year.
