Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Brazil: Measles

Since February this year, 3 cases of Measles infection have been reported in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Local authority worries that an outbreak is emerging, since the local measles vaccination coverage percentage among children upto 5 years old dropped to 60.1% in 2021.

Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 12 April, Singapore's National Environment Agency reported 4,222 cases of Dengue Fever infection.

Brazil: Leptospirosis

During the first quarter this year, 99 probable cases of Leptospirosis have been registered in Petrópolis, Brazil. Heavy rains in February leaded to the dramatic increase in number of cases.

Sweden: Tick-borne encephalitis

13 April 2022

Sweden recorded 533 cases of Tick-borne Encephalitis in 2021. Most cases were reported in September.

Panama: Leishmaniasis

A total of 21 cases of Leishmaniasis were detected in the community of Charco La Pava in Bocas del Toro, Panama.

Panama: Hantavirus [Update]

13 April 2022

The Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health reported on 31 March, 6 cases of Hantavirus infection and 1 more death have been registered in Panama. Among these cases, Los Santos reported 5 cases, Coclé with 1 case, and Herrera with 1 death.
