Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Monkeypox when travelling abroad

Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by Monkeypox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa. It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.

Since 6 May this year, multiple outbreaks were reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Taiwan: Dengue Fever [Update]

15 December 2022

As of 15 December, Taiwan reported 81 cases of Dengue Fever infection including 60 imported cases. Thirty four cases were imported from Vietnam, followed by 8 from Indonesia and 6 from Philippine.

Brazil: Dengue Fever [Update]

15 December 2022

To date, Brazil reported 978 deaths after Dengue Fever infection, almost four times higher than last year's total deaths.

India: Dengue Fever [Update]

So far this year, more than 3,800 cases of Dengue Fever infection have been reported in Delhi, India.

As of 12 December, 13 lethal cases of Measles infection have been reported in Mumbai, India.

USA: Dengue Fever [Update]

15 December 2022

In United States of America, the Florida Department of Health reported 55 cases of locally-acquired and 754 cases of imported Dengue Fever. About 70% of the cases were reported in Miami-Dade County.

Haiti: Cholera [Update]

15 December 2022

As of 11 December, Haiti reported 14,777 suspected cases of Cholera infection including 291 deaths.

Among the 1,262 confirmed cases, 94% were reported in Quest, Centre and Artibonite departments.

Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 12 December, Singapore's National Environment Agency reported 31,379 cases of Dengue Fever infection.

Nepal: Dengue Fever [Update]

13 December 2022

As of 11 December, Nepal reported 54,232 cases and 67 deaths of Dengue Fever.

Philippines: Cholera [Update]

13 December 2022

As of 15 November, 5,291 cases of Cholera infection including 62 deaths were reported by the Philippines Department of Health. Total number of cases increased by 283% when compared to the same period last year.
The Eastern Visayas reported most number of cases with a total of 3,231 cases.

South Africa: Rabies [Update]

13 December 2022

As of 23 November, South Africa reported 12 confirmed Rabies cases including 7 from the Eastern Cape province, 3 from Limpopo province and 2 from KwaZuluNatal province. Furthermore, 5 probable cases have been reported from the Eastern Cape province.

As of 10 December, Bangladesh reported 60,078 cases of Dengue Fever infection including 266 deaths.

As of 3 December, the Malaysia Ministry of Health reported 58,239 cases of Dengue Fever infection with 39 deaths. The number of cases increased by 142.2% when compared with the same period last year.

South Africa: Measles [Update]

As of 6 December, South Africa reported 137 cases of confirmed Measles infection. Among all, 89 cases were reported in Limpopo province and 40 cases in Mpumalanga province.
