Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Monkeypox when travelling abroad

Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by Monkeypox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa. It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.

Since 6 May this year, multiple outbreaks were reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Taiwan: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 28 November, Taiwan reported 79 cases of Dengue Fever infection including 59 imported cases. Thirty three cases were imported from Vietnam, followed by 8 from Indonesia and 6 from Philippine.

Bangladesh: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 27 November, Bangladesh reported 56,130 cases of Dengue Fever infection including 257 deaths.

Since March, Iran reported 78 confirmed cases of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever including 9 deaths.

South Africa reported 71 cases of Measles in Limpopo province and Mpumalanga province from 1 September to 22 November.

Lebanon: Cholera [Update]

As of 25 November, the Lebanon Ministry of Public Health reported 4,337 cases of Cholera infection including 595 confirmed cases and 20 deaths since the first case was confirmed on 5 October.

As of 5 November, Philippines reported 515 cases of Measles, increased by 201% when compared with the same period last year.

The Victoria Department of Health reported 3 new cases of Measles infection among returned overseas travelers, adding the total to 5 cases in Victoria, Australia so far this year.

In United States of America, the Florida Department of Health reported 48 cases of locally-acquired Dengue Fever including 8 cases of severe Dengue Fever infection.

As of 13 November, a total of 399 suspected Cholera cases including 17 deaths have been reported in Oromia region and Somali region of Ethiopia.
