Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Australia: Japanese Encephalitis [Update]

4 April 2022

As of 31 March, 34 cases of Japanese Encephalitis have been reported in Australia. Among these, 24 cases were confirmed.

Canada: Norovirus

4 April 2022

As of 30 March, Canada reported 279 cases of Norovirus and gastrointestinal illness. Based on the investigation findings, the outbreak is linked to consumption of raw oysters from British Colombia.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Plague

4 April 2022

During the period of 27 - 31 March, 16 suspect cases of bubonic Plague including 2 deaths were reported in Rethy Health Zone, Ituri Province, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Brazil: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

4 April 2022

As of 29 March, 1,314 probable cases of Chikungunya Fever infection were reported in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Among these, 247 cases were confirmed.

Brazil: Dengue Fever [Update]

4 April 2022

As of 29 March, 16,940 probable cases of Dengue infection were reported in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Among these, 7,220 cases were confirmed including 5 deaths.

Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

1 April 2022

As of 31 March, Singapore's National Environment Agency reported 3,152 cases of Dengue Fever infection.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Monkeypox

1 April 2022

During the first two months of this year, 704 cases of Monkeypox including 37 deaths were reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Uganda: Yellow Fever

1 April 2022

The Uganda Ministry of Health declared a Yellow Fever outbreak. Four confirmed cases were recorded during 3 January to 18 February 2022.

Kenya: Chikungunya Fever

Kenya reported 44 cases of Chikungunya Fever infection so far this year.

Timor-Leste: Dengue Fever [Update]

1 April 2022

As of 29 March, Timor-Leste has recorded 3,713 cases of Dengue Fever infection including 44 deaths. Among all these cases, 2,465 cases and 23 deaths were reported in the capital Dili.

Philippines: Rabies [Update]

Health officials in Northern Mindanao, Philippines reported 67,186 cases of animal bites with 18 cases of lethal Rabies infection in 2021.

Argentina: Measles

1 April 2022

The Ministry of Health of Argentina reports on a possible case of Measles in the City of Buenos Aires. The case is a 25-year-old pregnant woman returned to the country after a trip to Maldives with stopovers in Jordan, Qatar, Dubai and São Paulo.
