Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Senegal: Rift Valley Fever

Senegal has reported 536 confirmed
Rift Valley fever cases with 31 deaths as of December 3. The outbreak has spread across 11 regions, with
Saint-Louis recording the highest number at 365 cases. Approximately 70% of human cases involve individuals in occupations with direct animal exposure.
Namibia: Cholera
8 December 2025
Namibia has reported its second
cholera outbreak of 2025 in
Grootfontein District, Otjozondjupa Region, with 6 cases including 3 confirmed. The 2025 cumulative total stands at 24 cases with 1 death across
Kunene and
Otjozondjupa regions.
Vietnam: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam has reported 32,637
hand, foot and mouth disease cases in 2025, a 64% increase from 2024, with 65 severe cases. Health authorities have identified the emergence of Enterovirus 71 (EV71), which can cause severe neurological complications.
Fiji: Leptospirosis

Fiji has issued an urgent public alert regarding
leptospirosis in the
Northern Division following 2 deaths on
Vanua Levu. Health officials warn that risk increases during heavy rainfall and flooding.
Jamaica: Leptospirosis

Jamaica has reported 71
leptospirosis cases with 12 deaths following Hurricane Melissa. The parishes with the highest case counts are
St. James,
St. Ann, and
St. Elizabeth.
France: MERS

France has confirmed 2
Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) cases in travellers returning from the
Arabian Peninsula. Both patients are hospitalized in stable condition, with no secondary transmission identified.
USA: Measles

Montana has reported 2 new
measles cases in
Gallatin County, bringing the state total to 34 cases in 2025—the first cases since 1990. Six counties have been affected, with
Gallatin County recording the most at 21 cases.
USA: Measles [Update]

measles outbreak in
Upstate South Carolina has risen to 84 cases, with 8 new cases reported since December 2. Currently 281 individuals are in quarantine across multiple schools in
Spartanburg County.
Guam: Pertussis

Guam has reported 7 confirmed
pertussis cases in 2025, with the Department of Public Health and Social Services noting that one recent case resulted from direct contact with a known case earlier in the year.
USA: Measles [Update]

The
measles outbreak in
Mohave County and 4 in
Upstate South Carolina has grown to 76 cases, with 14 new cases reported, linked to exposures at the Way of Truth Church in
Inman and four local schools including
Hendrix Elementary,
Mabry Middle School,
Chapman High School, and
Tyger River Elementary School.
Ethiopia: Marburg Virus Disease [Update]

Marburg virus disease cases with 8 deaths in the country's first-ever outbreak, with WHO supporting the government-led response.
