Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola

The
Democratic Republic of the Congo has declared an
Ebola outbreak in
Kasai Province with 28 suspected cases and 15 deaths, including 4 health workers, in the
Bulape and
Mweka health zones.
Taiwan: Melioidosis
8 September 2025
Taiwan reported 5 new
melioidosis cases, bringing the 2025 total to 55 cases with 7 deaths, primarily in
southern Taiwan, with most patients having chronic diseases and exposure to contaminated sewage sludge.

leptospirosis cases, bringing the 2025 cumulative total to 37 cases, with infections linked to exposure to contaminated water and soil.

France: Chikungunya

Occitanie, with growing transmission clusters confirming increased risk.

Czech Republic has reported 1,348
hepatitis A cases with 15 deaths in 2025, the highest incidence since the late 1990s, with
Prague (436 cases),
Central Bohemia (202 cases), and
Moravian-Silesian Region (118 cases) most affected.
Philippines: Leptospirosis

Philippines reported nearly 4,900
leptospirosis cases during the rainy season with a peak of 1,147 cases from August 3-9, linked to flooding and exposure to animal urine-contaminated water.

Fairfield County who was hospitalized but recovered.

New Hampshire health officials reported 5
giardia infections in
Bethlehem, with at least 4 cases linked to drinking from a natural spring on Old Franconia Road, prompting the water source to be shut off.
USA: Dengue Fever [Update]

Florida state health officials reported three additional autochthonous
dengue fever cases during the week ending August 30, all three in Brevard County. This brings the state total of 19 locally-acquired cases.
Samoa: Dengue Fever [Update]

In a follow-up on the
dengue fever outbreak in American
Samoa, since health officials declared the outbreak on July 8 and through August 29, 81 lab-confirmed cases have been reported.
Philippines: Leptospirosis [Update]

The
Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division reports 535
leptospirosis cases and 78 deaths from January 1 through September 1. This is a 27 percent increase in cases from the 446 recorded on Sept. 7, 2024.

polio case from District Tank in Southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Bolivia: Leishmaniasis

Pando has registered 203 cases of
leishmaniasis so far this year, ranking it second in the country with the highest incidence, reported the head of Epidemiology at the Departmental Health Service.
USA: Measles [Update]

In a follow-up on the
measles outbreak in Oconto County,
Wisconsin, as of Friday, August 29, 2025, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Oconto County Public Health have identified 23 cases of measles in Oconto County.
Iraq: Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever [Update]

In the past few days, health officials in
Iraq reported two additional
Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic fever cases in the Duhok Governorate, Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq.
USA: Measles [Update]

In a weekly update, the
US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today reported 23 more
measles cases, lifting the country's total to 1,431, the most since the country reached elimination status in 2000.
