Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

Senegal reported 405 confirmed
Rift Valley fever cases with 29 deaths since September 20 across ten regions, with
Saint-Louis leading at 307 cases and approximately 352 patients recovered.
The Gambia: Rift Valley Fever

The Gambia reported its first human
Rift Valley fever case, a Mauritanian national residing in the
Senegalese border village of
Ker Ayib who was treated at
Ker Ali Health Center, following an outbreak in the
North Bank Region detected on October 31.
Bolivia: Rabies
7 November 2025
Bolivia confirmed a
rabies death of a 24-year-old medical intern from
Melga who contracted the virus from a three-month-old puppy while performing rural service in
Chimoré, with authorities launching a November mass vaccination campaign for pets.
Nepal: Japanese Encephalitis [Update]
7 November 2025
Nepal reported 164 confirmed
Japanese encephalitis cases with 31 deaths in 2025, the highest death toll in ten years, affecting 110 municipalities across 42 districts with most fatalities involving unvaccinated people over 40 years old.
Israel: Measles [Update]
7 November 2025
Israel's Ministry of Health confirmed the ninth
measles fatality of 2025, a 7-year-old boy from
Jerusalem with underlying illness who had received one dose of measles vaccine and died from complications upon arriving at the emergency room.
Canada: Measles [Update]
7 November 2025
Manitoba reported a measles exposure at
Emerado Centennial School in Winkler on October 29, with
Manitoba recording 247 confirmed and 16 probable
measles cases year-to-date, with 87% of cases unvaccinated and 16 hospitalizations.
USA: Measles

Nashville, Tennessee confirmed its first
measles case since 2005 in an unvaccinated individual with recent travel history, with
Tennessee reporting eight confirmed cases this year and nationally 1,681 confirmed cases through November 4.
Nigeria: Lassa Fever [Update]
7 November 2025
During the first 10 months of 2025, the
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention reports 995 confirmed
Lassa fever cases and 176 deaths.
South Africa: Pertussis
7 November 2025
Following a period of reduced
Pertussis activity during 2020–2021,
South Africa experienced a marked resurgence in 2022 and 2023. Case numbers declined through 2024 but have shown a gradual increase during 2025. From January to October 2025, a total of 483 confirmed pertussis cases were reported.
Mauritania and Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

Between 27 September and 30 October 2025, a total of 44 confirmed human cases of Rift Valley Fever, including 14 associated deaths were reported in Mauritania.
Between 20 September and5 November 2025, the Republic of Senegal reported a total of 397 confirmed human cases of RVF, including 29 deaths from nine regions.
Taiwan: Dengue Fever [Update]

The
Taiwan Centers for Disease Control announced today the first locally acquired
Dengue fever case in New Taipei City.
USA: Pertussis [Update]
7 November 2025
Texas state health officials are reporting a significant increase in cases of
Pertussis in 2025. Provisionally, the Texas Department of State Health Services has reported more than 3,500 reported pertussis cases through October this year, roughly four times the number reported for the same period in 2024.
Brazil: Dengue Fever [Update]

The state of
Paraíba currently has 7,100 probable cases of
Dengue fever, a reduction of approximately 48% compared to the same period in 2024, when 13,600 cases were reported.
Hong Kong: Chikungunya Fever [Update]
4 November 2025
Hong Kong health officials reported today the third locally acquired case of
Chikungunya fever in a 45-year-old male living in Kwai Tsing District and working in Sheung Wan.
Mexico: Dengue Fever

The number of
Dengue infections continue to rise in
Mexico, reaching 14,652 confirmed cases as of October 27, according to the most recent Epidemiological Overview from the Ministry of Health. In the last week alone, 992 new cases were registered.
Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

Senegal is now reporting human
Rift Valley fever in nine regions. The latest in Kédougou Region in south-eastern Senegal near the border with Mali and Guinea. Since the outbreak started in September, 381 confirmed human cases have been reported, including 29 fatalities.
Israel: Measles [Update]

The
Israel Ministry of Health reported Friday that a doctor at Ichilov Hospital, associated with Tel Aviv University, contracted
Measles after treating an unvaccinated child who had measles.
New Zealand: Measles

On November 2, Health
New Zealand confirmed one additional
Measles case in the Auckland region. This brings the current total number of known cases nationally to 17.
USA: Pertussis [Update]

The Public and Environmental Health Office of Colorado State University in
Fort Collins, report an atypical increase in
Pertussis cases this semester, with 14 confirmed cases to date in the fall 2025 semester.
Bangladesh: Dengue Fever [Update]

According to the Director General of Health Services in
Dhaka, the number of
Dengue fever cases has eclipsed 70,000 during the first ten months of the year.
USA: Vibrio Vulnificus Infection [Update]

Florida state health officials have reported 30
Vibrio vulnificus cases in 19 counties through the end of October this year.
USA: Measles [Update]

Over the weekend Utah and South Carolina, the current hot spots of
Measles activity in the
United States, saw case counts climb, and Idaho reported a new case in a young child.

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said late last week there is a new
Salmonella outbreak linked to a dietary supplement containing moringa leaf powder.
