Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Czech Republic: Hepatitis A [Update]

During the first four months of this year, the
Czech Republic has already had more cases of infectious hepatitis than in 2021 to 2023 combined. By the end of April, there were 450 cases of viral

Angola: Cholera [Update]

In an update on the
Cholera outbreak in
Angola, the Ministry of Health reports since the beginning of the year, 16,102 cumulative cases, including 937 confirmed, and 547 deaths from 17 of the country’s 21 provinces.
Israel: Measles [Update]

USA: Salmonella [Update]

In a follow-up on the
Salmonella outbreak linked to Aladdin Mediterranean Café in the Clairemont
San Diego area, the County of San Diego now reports 37 probable and confirmed cases of people who have gotten sick with Salmonella.
Thailand: Anthrax [Update]

As of May 6, 2025, a total of 4 confirmed
Anthrax cases were found in
Thailand, of which 1 case has died and 3 cases are under treatment.
USA: Measles [Update]

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 66 more
Measles cases, pushing the national total to 1,001.
Samoa: Dengue Fever [Update]

Samoan health officials report 36 confirmed
dengue cases since the beginning of 2025, including 1 death.
Thailand: Streptococcus Suis
9 May 2025
The Phrae province reports an outbreak of
Streptococcus suis infection, which has resulted in 14 cases and 2 deaths.
Réunion: Chikungunya Fever [Update]
9 May 2025
Réunion health officials reported an additional 3,079 confirmed cases of
Chikungunya during the week of 4 May 2025, bringing the total to more than 47,500 confirmed cases since the beginning of 2025.
USA: Hepatitis A
9 May 2025
Los Angeles County health officials has declared a
hepatitis A outbreak, with 29 cases confirmed in 2025 and elevated virus levels detected in local wastewater.
Sierra Leone: Mpox [Update]
9 May 2025
Sierra Leone Ministry of Health reports 1603 confirmed cases of
Mpox, including 11 deaths, as of 8 May 2025.
Thailand: Anthrax
6 May 2025
A 53-year-old man in
Mukdahan, in eastern Thailand, died after contracting
anthrax, according to the provincial health office. This is the first human anthrax death reported in Thailand since 1994, prompting a public health alert in the province. A second case was confirmed in the same province and three additional suspected cases under investigation, officials report.
USA: West Nile Virus Infection [Update]

Mobile County Health Department confirmed a human case of
West Nile Virus, the first case in the county this year.
Vietnam: Measles [Update]
6 May 2025
According to statistics from the Department of Disease Prevention in
Vietnam, in week 17 (from April 19, 2025 to April 25, 2025), the country recorded 3,942 suspected
measles cases, down 4.3% compared to the previous week (4,122 cases). Since the beginning of 2025, the country has recorded 81,691 suspected measles cases in 63 provinces and cities.
Canada: Measles [Update]
6 May 2025
Alberta Health Services reports the number of
measles cases in the province has surged to 210 cases, after 17 additional cases were reported. Of the 210 total cases, 85 percent of the cases have been reported in the Central (72) and South (106) zones.
Taiwan: Measles [Update]
6 May 2025
The
Taiwan Centers for Disease Control announced Tuesday 4 new confirmed cases of
measles in the country (1 local and 3 imported cases).
Tonga: Dengue Fever [Update]
6 May 2025
The
Tonga Ministry of Health reported seven additional
dengue fever cases today. This brings the total to 625 cases since the outbreak was declared in February.
Democratic Republic of Congo: Anthrax [Update]
6 May 2025
In a follow-up on the
anthrax outbreak in
North Kivu province, Democratic Republic of the Congo, health officials are intensifying emergency response efforts to control the outbreak. To date, 16 suspected and one confirmed human cases have been reported, including one fatality.
France: Measles [Update]
6 May 2025
From January 1 to April 13, 2025, 427 cases of
measles were reported to the Regional Health Agencies in
France, a total approaching the number of cases (483) reported in 2024.
Philippines: Dengue Fever [Update]
6 May 2025
The Philippines Department of Health report that since the beginning of the year through April 21, a total of 95,262 cases of
dengue have been recorded. This is a 75 percent increase compared to the 54,556 cases reported during the same period last year.
USA: Salmonella
6 May 2025
The
US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and their partners are investigating
Salmonella Mbandaka illnesses in several states that appear to be linked to contact with backyard poultry. So far, seven illnesses involving the outbreak strain have been identified from six states.
USA: Measles [Update]

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today in its weekly update reported 51 more
measles cases, bringing the national total to 935 from 30 states, though most are part of a large outbreak with an epicenter in West Texas.
