Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Quezon City reported 8,729
dengue cases from January 1 to October 7, 2025, marking a 91% increase compared to 4,581 cases during the same period in 2024, with 30 deaths recorded and children aged ten and younger most affected.

Czech Republic is experiencing a significant
hepatitis A outbreak with 1,776 cases registered through September, the highest number since 1996, with
Prague accounting for nearly 40% of cases and 21 deaths reported.

Rift Valley fever cases and 5 new deaths with a case fatality rate of 71.42%, representing a significant increase in cases.

Rift Valley fever cases and 6 new deaths with a case fatality rate of 11.32%, showing over 1,000% increase compared to previous reports.
USA: Pertussis

Florida reported 1,295
pertussis cases through September 27, 2025, a 217% increase from 409 cases in the same period in 2024, with
Miami-Dade County recording the most cases (137) and 63% occurring in children nine years old and younger.
France: Chikungunya

France reported 695 locally transmitted
chikungunya cases as of October 6, 2025, as part of 737 total indigenous cases across 87 outbreaks in multiple regions including
Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes,
Corsica,
Île-de-France,

measles death, an unvaccinated one-year-old toddler, with about 1,700 patients diagnosed and statistical models suggesting closer to 5,000 cases across

Chinese Mainland: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

As of the end of September, more than 16,000 locally transmitted cases has been reported in Guangdong Province. All cases were laboratory-confirmed. This represents the largest documented
chikungunya outbreak to date in
China.
The cases have been reported in 21 cities, mainly in Foshan City (10032), Jiangmen City (5209), Guangzhou City (590), Shenzhen City (128), Zhanjiang City (112), Zhuhai City (60), and Zhongshan City (54).
USA: Measles [Update]

In a follow-up on the
measles outbreak in upstate
South Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed two additional cases of measles related to an ongoing outbreak of measles in Spartanburg County.
USA: Dengue Fever [Update]

The
Florida Department of Health reported two additional autochthonous
dengue fever cases in the past week- one each in Miami-Dade and Brevard counties. In 2025, 47 cases of locally acquired dengue have been reported in Brevard (31), Hillsborough, Miami-Dade (14), and Pasco counties.
Vanuatu: Pertussis
8 October 2025
The
Vanuatu Ministry of Health officially declared an outbreak of
pertussis, or whooping cough in Tanna Island, Tafea Province on 18 August 2025. As of 26 September 2025, 270 cases of pertussis have been reported on Tanna, Efate and Erromango, resulting in 3 infant deaths, with a case fatality rate of 1.1%.
Samoa: Dengue Fever [Update]
8 October 2025
In a follow-up on the
dengue fever outbreak in
Samoa, the Samoa Ministry of Health has recorded a total of 14,435 clinically diagnosed dengue cases since January, including 4,259 lab-confirmed cases as of the end of September.
In addition, health officials reported one additional dengue-related death has been recorded, bringing the total number of deaths to seven.
Brazil: Dengue Fever [Update]

In
Rio Grande do Sul state,
dengue remains a concern. Of the 123,219 reports issued by Rio Grande do Sul in 2025, 41,724 were confirmed cases of the disease, 40,954 had positive results, and 39,080 were discarded. According to the State Health Department (SES), 1,461 cases remain under investigation at the Rio Grande do Sul Central Laboratory.
USA: West Nile Virus Infection [Update]

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) is alerting the community to a concerning increase in
West Nile virus (WNV) infections in
Jefferson County. To date, nine residents have been confirmed to have contracted the virus, with seven requiring hospitalization.
Brazil: Dengue Fever [Update]

Santa Catarina state, in
Brazil's southern region, reported a a significant 230% increase in probable
dengue cases in September 2025, compared to the previous month. 1,403 cases were recorded, while August only recorded 423.
Bangladesh: Dengue Fever [Update]
8 October 2025
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Dhaka,
Bangladesh reported an additional 782
dengue fever hospitalizations in the past 24 hours, putting the total cases over the 50,000 case mark for the year (50,689).
In addition, three more dengue deaths were reported, bring the death total to 215.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Mpox (monkeypox) [Update]

South Kivu province has exceeded 17,000 cases of
mpox, or monkeypox, since January 2025. To date, a total of 17,336 cases have been reported, including 18 deaths.

Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

In a follow-up on the
Rift Valley fever (RVF) outbreak in
Senegal, local media report a worrying increase in the epidemic and spread in the Saint-Louis region.
As of Thursday, 54 positive cases have been recorded. Among them, there are 18 simple cases followed at home, 25 people cured, 8 deaths and 3 hospitalized cases - including one treated in Ndioum and two others in Saint-Louis. With this report, 13 new cases have been recorded in the Saint-Louis region.
Paraguay: Measles

The
measles outbreak in
Paraguay, which began in August, is currently showing a dispersion of cases. Last week, another case of measles confirmed in the
Central department. Twenty people with suspected measles are currently under investigation, 17 of whom are from
San Pedro and 3 from the
Metropolitan Area.
