Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Macau: Dengue Fever
8 July 2025
The
Macau Health Bureau received a report of a local
dengue fever case on July 5, and called on residents near the Kida Building, No. 7, Seaside New Street, Macau to take preventive measures to strengthen prevention of dengue fever.
Kenya: Chikungunya Fever [Update]
8 July 2025
In a follow-up on the
chikungunya outbreak in
Mombasa County, in southeastern Kenya, a total of 242 cases including 101 confirmed and zero deaths have been reported through June 15.
Angola: Yellow Fever
8 July 2025
Last month, the Ministry of Health of
Angola officially notified the World Health Organization of the confirmation of seven
yellow fever cases. These cases were identified from samples collected through routine surveillance between July 2024 and February 2025.
Mexico: Measles [Update]
8 July 2025
The Secretary of Health of
Mexico reported that, to date, 2,942 cases of
measles have been recorded nationwide. The majority (93.5%) are concentrated in Chihuahua.
USA: West Nile Virus Infection [Update]

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed
Illinois’ first human case of
West Nile virus of 2025 in an individual from Southern Illinois.
USA: Dengue Fever [Update]
8 July 2025
The
Hawai‘i Department of Health has confirmed a new travel-related case of
dengue virus on Oʻahu, bringing the total number of cases reported in Hawai‘i in 2025 to nine.
Taiwan: Japanese Encephalitis
8 July 2025
The
Taiwan Centers for Disease Control announced recently five new confirmed cases of
Japanese encephalitis have been reported in the country, bringing the total number of cases in 2025 to six.
India: Nipah Virus Infection [Update]
8 July 2025
Health officials in Kerala state, on the Malabar Coast of
India, report two additional
Nipah virus cases in the state.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Cholera [Update]
8 July 2025
An outbreak of
cholera has been reported in
Kinshasa. To date, cholera cases have been identified in 25 of the city’s 35 zones. According to data provided by Médecins Sans Frontières, there have been 149 confirmed cases and 23 deaths recorded since the start of this outbreak.
United Kingdom: Salmonella

According to UK Health Security Agency data,
Salmonella infections in
England have risen significantly compared to the previous year. Salmonella infections reached a decade high, with a 17.1% increase from 2023, rising from 8,872 cases in 2023 to 10,388 cases in 2024.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Anthrax [Update]
8 July 2025
In a follow-up on the
anthrax outbreak in
North Kivu province, Democratic Republic of the Congo, as of 26 May 2025, 24 suspected human anthrax cases had been reported.
Mainland China: Naegleria fowleri
8 July 2025
According to a China News Service report, a 5-year-old girl in
Xiamen, Fujian Province in southeastern China was diagnosed with a rare and often fatal brain infection caused by
Naegleria fowleri.
Samoa: Dengue Fever [Update]
8 July 2025
In a follow-up on the
dengue outbreak in
Samoa, the Ministry of Health reported 166 additional dengue cases during the week ending June 22, bringing the outbreak total number of confirmed cases to 563 and one reported death since the declaration of the outbreak on 17 April 2025.
South Sudan: Rift Valley Fever
8 July 2025
According to South Sudan news source Radio Tamazuj, health authorities in Awerial County,
Lakes State, have confirmed a suspected outbreak of
Rift Valley fever in Wunthou Boma. Of the 5 suspected cases, two people have died, and three patients are receiving treatment.
Kyrgyzstan: Measles [Update]
8 July 2025
Kyrgyzstan health officials report as of June 17, 8,211
measles cases, including 982 laboratory confirmed cases, 3,590 clinically confirmed cases and 3,639 epidemiologically related cases. Nine deaths have been reported.
France: Chikungunya Fever [Update]
8 July 2025
As of July 1, 2025, the number of indigenous
chikungunya transmission that have been identified in mainland
France now is 14.
Bolivia: Measles [Update]
8 July 2025
In a follow-up on the
measles outbreak in
Bolivia, the Ministry of Health and Sports now reports 76 measles cases as of July 2, with most cases reported from the department of Santa Cruz.
Cambodia: Avian influenza [Update]
8 July 2025
In Cambodia, health authorities report today, another case of
H5N1 avian influenza in a 5-year-old boy from Kamakor Village, Sam Lahn Commune, Angkor Chey District,
Kampot Province.
