Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola [Update]
15 September 2025
In recent days, there have been 27 positive cases, including 16 deaths, and more than 50 suspected cases of
Ebola in the Bulape health zone in the
Mweka territory.
Japan: Pertussis [Update]
15 September 2025
In a follow-up on the
pertussis outbreak in
Japan this year, data from the Japanese Institute for Health Security show the case total has reached 72,448 through September 3, including 2,258 cases in the most recent week.
Pakistan, India: Naegleria fowleri [Update]
15 September 2025
On Saturday, the Sindh health department in
Pakistan reported on the death of the fifth individual this year from the dangerous parasite,
Naegleria fowleri.
According to the current data from the Health Department in Kerala, 17 people have died from amoebic meningoencephalitis in Kerala this year and 66 people have been infected with the disease so far.
Bangladesh: Dengue Fever, Nipah Virus [Update]
15 September 2025
In
Bangladesh, 279 more patients were hospitalized with
dengue fever in the past 24 hours, bringing the total cases in the country to 37,206, according to the Directorate General of Health Services in Dhaka.
In a follow-up on a report from March, The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control And Research reported a fourth human
Nipah virus case and death.
USA: Hantavirus [Update]

According to a report from WMTW-TV in Portland,
Maine, the Maine CDC has reported a case of
hantavirus pulmonary syndrome in an individual in the state.
USA: Legionnaires' Disease [Update]
15 September 2025
To date, 40 cases of
legionella and one death has been reported related to legionella in
Marshall County since August 2025.
USA: Measles [Update]

In a follow-up on the
measles outbreak in Oconto County,
Wisconsin, as of September 12, 2025, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Oconto County Public Health have identified 36 cases of measles in Oconto County. There have been two hospitalizations reported.
Ukraine: Tuberculosis

According to data from the Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health of
Ukraine, In August 2025, 1,084 people with
tuberculosis were registered in Ukraine, including 826 new cases.
Italy: West Nile Virus [Update]

France: Measles [Update]
15 September 2025
Since 01/01/2025, 828 cases of
measles have occurred and been reported in
France (i.e. +23 new cases in August).
USA: Leptospirosis
15 September 2025
The
Chicago Department of Public Health reported on Tuesday an increase in
leptospirosis cases in the city this year. A total of 6 cases have been reported to the Chicago Department of Public Health in 2025.
USA: Legionnaires' Disease [Update]
11 September 2025
The
Westchester County Department of Health is advising the public after a recent uptick in
Legionnaires' disease cases was observed locally, consistent with a similar trend reported in
New York City. On Monday, Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler announced that 37 Legionnaires' disease cases have been reported in the county so far this season, including two fatalities.
France: Chikungunya Fever and Dengue Fever [Update]
11 September 2025
In a follow-up to the indigenous arbovirus situation in
France, Public Health France reports an additional 81 locally transmitted
chikungunya cases diring the past week, bringing the total to 382 this year. Two more local
dengue cases have also been reported, bringing that total to 21.
USA: Equine Encephalitis
11 September 2025
The
Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports the detection of a locally-acquired case of
Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus (EEE) in a Maine resident.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Virus Disease
11 September 2025
On 4 September, the Ministry of Health (MoH) declared an outbreak of
Ebola virus disease in Bulape Health Zone, Kasai Province, southern
DRC. Cumulatively, 28 cases (5 confirmed; 23 suspected) and 15 deaths (CFR:53.6%) have been reported from Bulape Health Zone, Kasai province.
United Kingdom: Measles [Update]
11 September 2025
According to the UK Health Security Agency, since 1 January 2025, there have been 742 laboratory confirmed
measles cases reported in
England, an increase of 68 cases since the last report on 31 July 2025.
