Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad

Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa. It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.

Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

South Korea: Scarlet Fever

10 June 2025

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has reported a 152 percent increase in scarlet fever in 2025 to date. As of May 24, a total of 3,809 cases were reported, a 2.5-fold increase compared to the same period last year (1,506 cases).

United Kingdom: Measles [Update]

10 June 2025

According to the UK Health Security Agency, 100 additional measles cases were reported in England in the past month, bringing the total confirmed cases to 420 in 2025.

Angola: Cholera [Update]

10 June 2025

Since the beginning of the cholera outbreak in Angola in January through the first five months of the year, the Ministry of Health reports a cumulative total of 23,143 cholera cases, including 937 confirmed and 693 deaths, about a 3% CFR.

USA: Salmonella [Update]

10 June 2025

USA Officials report seventy-nine people across seven states- California (63), Nevada (4), Washington (4), Arizona (3), Nebraska (2), New Jersey (2) and Kentucky (1)- have gotten sick with the same outbreak strain of Salmonella hat has been linked to eggs. Twenty-one people have been hospitalized and no deaths have been reported.

Brazil: Dengue, chikungunya and Oropouche Fever [Update]

10 June 2025

Through the first five months of 2025, Brazil authorities have reported 1,463,196 probable dengue fever cases, including 1,150 deaths. Nearly 1.1 million cases are confirmed.

The number of probable chikungunya cases in Brazil has eclipsed the 100,000 mark with 100,547. 66,733 of the cases were confirmed.

The number of confirmed Oropouche fever cases reported in Brazil has risen to 11,305. This compares to 13,801 cases in all of 2024.

Canada: Measles [Update]

10 June 2025

According to Public Health Ontario, from the beginning of the year through June 3, a total of 2,047 measles cases (1,792 confirmed, 255 probable) have been reported in the province.
