Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad

Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa. It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.

Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Taiwan: Dengue Fever [Update]

13 November 2025

The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control reported four new locally transmitted dengue fever cases during the last week, one each in Xizhi District of New Taipei City, Fengshan District of Kaohsiung City, and Wandan Township of Pingtung County. This brings the total to 29 confirmed local dengue fever cases this year.

USA: Dengue Fever [Update]

13 November 2025

Florida state health officials reported an additional three indigenous dengue fever cases in Miami-Dade County in the past week, bringing the state total to 56 in 2025 to date.

Peru: Leptospirosis

13 November 2025

On the northwestern coast of Peru, in Piura, officials report 316 confirmed and probable leptospirosis cases and one death in 2025.

Bangladesh: Dengue Fever [Update]

13 November 2025

The Bangladesh Director General of Health Services (DGHS) reported an additional 912 dengue fever cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cummulative total for 2025 to date to 80,634. According to the DGHS data, three additional fatalites were reported bring the annual death toll to 318.

American Samoa: Dengue Fever

13 November 2025

Health officials in American Samoa declared a public health emergency in response to a dengue outbreak in early July 2025. According to the latest numbers from the Department of Health, 45 additional cases were recorded, bring the outbreak total to 348 lab-confirmed cases.

Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

13 November 2025

The west African country of Senegal continues to report confirmed human Rift Valley fever cases as additional cases have been reported in the Saint-Louis region (11), bringing the country outbreak total to 416 in ten regions.
