Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

South Korea: Japanese Encephalitis

Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency requested compliance with preventive measures and vaccination participation by those eligible for vaccination, as the first case of
Japanese encephalitis was confirmed on October 14.

Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

In a follow-up on the
Rift Valley fever outbreak in
Senegal that started in September, the health ministry reported 25 additional confirmed cases, bringing the total to 196 through October 16.
USA: Measles [Update]

South Carolina health officials reported five additional

yellow fever case in a 29-year-old unvaccinated American woman who traveled from the Amazon region and entered the country on October 8.

Madrid involving a 49-year-old male with no recent travel history who is now isolated at home in stable condition.
Brazil: Dengue Fever and Chikungunya Fever [Update]

Brazil's Mato Grosso do Sul state has reported 13,438 probable dengue cases with 8,172 confirmed and 18 deaths, affecting municipalities including Dois Irmãos do Buriti, Vicentina, and Naviraí.
It has reported 13,552 probable chikungunya cases with 7,430 confirmed and 16 deaths, including 73 cases in pregnant women.

cyclosporiasis cases across 37 states as of September 16, with most cases in New York, Texas, and North Carolina, resulting in 93 hospitalizations and no deaths.

measles cases and 22 deaths across 25 states and 112 municipalities, with Chihuahua state most affected (4,380 cases) and the 0-4 age group most impacted (1,218 cases).

listeriosis cases linked to a restaurant in central Stockholm, with outbreak dates spanning September 23-27 and recent cases continuing into early October.

measles cases in the Garraf region of Catalonia (ages 7-44), with 6 unvaccinated and 3 hospitalized; Catalonia has seen 71 total cases in 2025, a 110% increase from 2024.
