Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Philippines: Leptospirosis [Update]

The case of
leptospirosis in
Quezon City has reached 103 starting January 1 until July 16, 2025. This is 37 percent higher than the number of leptospirosis cases in 2024 during the same period.
Mauritius: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

In a follow-up on the
chikungunya outbreak in the island country of
Mauritius, off the southeastern coast of East Africa, the Ministry of Health reported 100 new confirmed chikungunya cases since July 4. Since the beginning of the year,
Mauritius has reported 1,540, including 1,493 local cases and no deaths.
Mexico: Measles [Update]
18 July 2025
In an update on the
measles outbreak in
Mexico, The Ministry of Health reported 3,360 confirmed cases of measles in the country, with 92 new cases in the last 48 hours. The death toll associated with this disease has remained at nine since June 23.
Samoa: Dengue Fever [Update]
18 July 2025
In a follow-up on the
dengue outbreak in
Samoa, the Ministry of Health reported 237 lab-confirmed dengue cases during the week ending July 6, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 945 and one reported death since the declaration of the outbreak on 17 April 2025.
Canada: Legionnaires’ Disease
18 July 2025
In a follow-up on the
Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in the London,
Ontario area, The Middlesex-London Health Unit now reports 66 cases attached to the outbreak, including two fatalities, as of July 14. Most of the cases live and/or work in a 6 km radius of one another in the southeast side of the city. The cases ranged in age from 23 to 93.
Mozambique: Mpox

Mozambique last week confirmed its first
mpox cases of the year, bringing the number of African nations reporting outbreaks to 24.
Mainland China: Chikungunya Fever
16 July 2025
Health authorities in Shunde district of Foshan, Guangdong province, announced 478 cases of Chikungunya fever infections in the area as of 15 July 2025.
South Korea: Measles [Update]
15 July 2025
The
Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has urged travelers to take special care to prevent
Measles infection as the demand for overseas travel is expected to increase significantly during the summer vacation and holiday season. This year, a total of 65 domestic measles patients occurred since the beginning of the year through week 27, which is a 1.4-fold increase from the same period last year (47 cases).
Vietnam: Dengue Fever [Update]

Since the beginning of 2025,
Vietnam has recorded 32,189 cases of
Dengue fever, including 5 deaths. Compared to the same period in 2024 (recorded 36,276 cases and 6 deaths), the number of cases decreased by 11.2%, and the number of deaths decreased by 1 case.
Colombia: Leishmaniasis

Through June 14, 2,903 cases of cutaneous
Leishmaniasis have been reported in
Colombia. The national incidence of cutaneous leishmaniasis is 29.57 per 100,000 inhabitants at risk, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
Guinea: Lassa Fever
15 July 2025
From 1 January to 1 June 2025, two confirmed
Lassa fever cases with one death were reported from
Guinea. Investigations and contact tracing are ongoing.
United Kingdom: Measles [Update]

In a follow-up on the
Measles situation in
England, from January 1 through July 3, 2025, there have been 529 laboratory confirmed measles cases reported in England.
United Kingdom: Legionnaires’ disease

On July 8, the Middlesex-
London Health Unit declared an outbreak of
Legionnaires ’ disease in the City of London. Mostly over the last week, 43 cases have been reported to the Health Unit, including one fatality.
