Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

measles cases to date in 2025, a number we haven’t seen since 1992.
Philippines: Measles and Rubella [Update]

In 2025, the
Philippines reported 4,843 cases of
measles-
rubella in 2025, with 73 percent of cases reported in unvaccinated people.
USA: West Nile Virus Infection [Update]

The
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has reported 285
West Nile virus cases to date in 2025, a 275 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Czech Republic: Hepatitis A [Update]

In a follow-up on the
hepatitis A outbreak in the
Czech Republic, the health ministry reports 3049 cases of hepatitis A in the country through December 14 this year. 34 deaths have been recorded.
Argentina: Trichinellosis

The Ministry of Health of Córdoba, through the Department of Zoonoses, reported five cases of
trichinellosis in people from the town of
Laboulaye.
USA: Measles [Update]

In a follow-up on the
measles outbreak in Upstate
South Carolina, The South Carolina Department of Public Health is reporting 9 new cases of measles in the state since Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in South Carolina related to the Upstate outbreak to 144.
Cuba: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

According to the Pan American Health Organization,
Cuba has reported 38,342 total
chikungunya cases and 21 related deaths through the first 11 months of 2025.
Sri Lanka: Chikungunya Fever [Update]
22 December 2025
The US Embassy in Colombo,
Sri Lanka issued a health alert yesterday for American citizens due to a
chikungunya outbreak. In Sri Lanka, a total of 151 confirmed Chikungunya virus disease cases were reported from sentinel sites in Colombo, Gampaha and Kandy between 1 January 2025 and the second week of March 2025. Cases continued to increase and peaked in June 2025.
Nepal: Japanese Encephalitis [Update]

The
Nepal Ministry of Health and Population has reported 35 fatalities to
Japanese encephalitis, and another 175 cases since June, numbers significantly higher than 2024 when 80 cases were reported, including 23 deaths.
USA: Measles [Update]

Officials with the County of San Luis Obispo, on the Central Coast of
California, confirmed a case of
Measles in a local child — the first case of measles in SLO County since 2018.
USA: Salmonella [Update]
18 December 2025
The
California Department of Public Health reports on an investigation of an outbreak of
Salmonella Enteritidis infections linked to the consumption of eggs. As of December 5, 2025, 63 California residents who became ill with the outbreak strain have been reported to CDPH.
Costa Rica: Influenza
18 December 2025
The
Costa Rican Institute for Research and Teaching in Nutrition and Health reports the confirmation of the circulation of the
influenza A(H3N2) subclade K virus in the country since October 14. To date, seven cases have been identified.
USA: Chikungunya Fever [Update]
18 December 2025
The
Florida Department of Health reported 46 travel associated
Chikungunya cases during the past week, bringing the total since the beginning of 2025 to 206 travel associated cases.
Peru: Influenza and Measles

Peru Ministry of Health has declared a national epidemiological alert as a preventative measure against the potential entry and spread of diseases from other countries, including
influenza A (H3N2) subclade K and
measles.
