Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Bangladesh: Dengue Fever [Update]

The number of
Dengue fever hospitalizations in
Bangladesh topped the 40,000 case mark this week and with an additional 382 cases reported in the past 24 hours, the total for the year now stands at 41,091.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Virus Disease [Update]

The
Ebola outbreak has so far affected 14 localities in Bulape in
Democratic Republic of the Congo, with no cases recorded in other health zones of Kasai Province. A total of 48 cases (38 confirmed and 10 probable), and 31 deaths have been reported as of 17 September.
Bangladesh: Nipah Virus Infection [Update]

Between 1 January and 29 August 2025, the International Health Regulations National Focal Point for
Bangladesh notified WHO of four confirmed fatal
Nipah virus infection cases, temporally unrelated, reported from four different districts across three separated geographical divisions (Barisal, Dhaka, and Rajshahi) in Bangladesh.

Israel: Measles [Update]

Since the beginning of the outbreak in
Israel, 1,251 patients have been diagnosed with
measles. As of yesterday, 29 measles patients are hospitalized.
Canada: West Nile Virus Infection [Update]

Ontario report the first locally acquired human
West Nile virus case of the year.
Mexico: Rickettsial Disease [Update]

The
Baja California Health Secretariat confirmed an alarming increase in
rickettsiosis cases in the state, with more than 60 confirmed infections and 31 deaths so far in 2025.
USA: Dengue Fever [Update]
18 September 2025
Brevard County has reported an unusual number of locally acquired
dengue fever cases this year. Since the beginning of the year, 27 cases have been reported in the county (77% of the state total), including eight cases in just the past week.
Namibia: Measles [Update]
18 September 2025
A
measles outbreak has been reported in mid August after a case was confirmed in Opuwo district. An additional 16 suspected measles cases were reported in early September. To date, a cumulative 17 measles cases (one confirmed) and no deaths have been reported in
Namibia.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola [Update]
18 September 2025
According to the Africa CDC as of September 14, the Democratic Republic of the Congo Ministry of Health has reported an additional 37 new cases (20 confirmed) and nine additional fatalities due to
Ebola Virus Disease in Bulape Health Zone,
Kasai Province since the last report. This brings the totals since the beginning of the outbreak to 65 cases (25 confirmed) and 24 deaths.
Pakistan: Poliomyelitis [Update]
18 September 2025
Pakistan health authorities confirmed two new
polio cases (wild poliovirus type 1) from South
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This brings the total number of polio cases in Pakistan in 2025 to 26.
USA: Measles [Update]
18 September 2025
Today in its weekly update, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there are 1,491 confirmed
measles cases in
the United States this year in 42 jurisdictions, an increase of 37 cases in the past week.
