Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Mayotte: Chikungunya [Update]

Health officials report
Mayotte has remained in the
chikungunya epidemic phase since May 27, 2025. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 969 confirmed cases of chikungunya were recorded through June 20.
Cambodia: Avian Influenza [Update]

The
Cambodia Ministry of Health reports an additional human H5N1
avian influenza case in a 52-year-old man from Prasat village, Por Reach commune, Svay Chrum district, Svay Rieng province.
Pakistan: Polio [Update]

In
Pakistan, health authorities have confirmed a new case of wild
poliomyelitis in District Bannu, South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. To date in 2025, Pakistan has reported a total of 12 cases of polio, including six from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Canada: Measles [Update]

Measles transmission continues to occur in
Alberta, affecting individuals of all ages – including infants, children and adults. With the addition of 24 new measles cases, this brings the total to 1,020. Two-thirds of the cases (681) have been reported from the South zone.
Czech Republic: Hepatitis A [Update]

In
Czechia, 706 cases of
Hepatitis A have been confirmed in 2025, already surpassing last year’s total of 636, including six deaths, with young children being the most affected group.
Singapore: Zika Virus Infection

Singapore, the Communicable Diseases Agency and the National Environment Agency have confirmed two local
Zika cases at Woodlands Street 11 and Street 32.

Philippines: Mpox [Update]

Health officials in
Philippines in the province of Agusan del Sur reported on Tuesday the first confirmed
Mpox case. This is also considered to be the first
mpox case in the Caraga region.
Tonga: Dengue Fever [Update]

Since the outbreak was declared on 19 February,
Tonga, a country with just over 100,000 people, has recorded 864 confirmed cases and 3
Dengue-related deaths.
Philippines: Dengue Fever [Update]

According to data from the
Iloilo Provincial Health Office, since the beginning of the year through May 17, the number of
Dengue fever cases recorded in the province is 1,742. This is a 77 percent increase in cases compared to the same period in 2024.
Ukraine: Tetanus

tetanus infections in 2025 so far, including 2 deaths.
Albania: Mpox

Albania Ministry of Health and Social Protection reports the first case of
Mpox in the country.

Agence-Regionale de Sante Provence-Alpes Cote de-Azur reported the first indigenous case of
chikungunya fever on 11 June 2025 in the commune of La Crau.
Philippines: Leptospirosis

Philippines health officials reported 223 cases of
leptospirosis in the first 5 months of 2025.
El Salvador: Typhoid
17 June 2025
The
El Salvador Ministry of Health reported 151 confirmed cases of
typhoid fever in 2025, as of 31 May 2025.
Kenya: Leishmaniasis

The World Health Organisation reports 1,378 visceral
leishmaniasis cases in
Kenya this year as of 1 June 2025.
Vietnam: Dengue Fever

8,595 cases of
dengue fever have been recorded in
Ho Chi Minh City since the beginning of the year.
Bangladesh: Dengue Fever

Dengue fever cases continue to rise in
Bangladesh. 1,394 cases of dengue fever have been reported in June as of 15 June 2025, compared to 1,773 cases in all of May 2025.

brucellosis this year, and 130 suspected cases.
