Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad

Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa. It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.

Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Greece: West Nile Virus Infection [Update]

Since the beginning of the year through October 15, Greece recorded 94 domestic West Nile virus cases, of which 76 were neuroinvasive and 18 with mild or no symptoms.

Taiwan: Dengue Fever [Update]

The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control announced today that there were three new local Dengue fever cases (two in Tainan City’s South District and one in Taoyuan City’s Taoyuan District).

Argentina: Pertussis

21 October 2025

A Pertussis outbreak is reported in the capital city of Tiera del Fuego, Ushuaia, in Argentina. To date, 58 confirmed cases have been reported, out of 135 suspected cases and more than 700 close contacts, in the capital of Tierra del Fuego.

Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

The Senegal Ministère de la Santé et de l’Hygiène publique reported in an update today that the number of confirmed Rift Valley fever cases have risen to 245 in six regions.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Virus Disease [Update]

21 October 2025

The World Health Organization reported today that the last Ebola patient in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was discharged today. No new cases have been reported since 25 September.

Bangladesh: Dengue Fever [Update]

21 October 2025

The Directorate General of Health Services in Dhaka reported an additional 950 Dengue fever hospitalizations in the past 24 hours, bringing the country total to 59,849.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency issued a “Influenza Outbreak Alert“ on Friday, October 17th due to an increase in the number of influenza patients, and urged people to get vaccinated against influenza and follow respiratory infection prevention guidelines.
