Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Senegalese Ministry of Health reported 287 confirmed
Rift Valley fever cases across six regions with 25 deaths, as the outbreak continues to affect the northwestern regions of the country.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Cholera [Update]

Médecins Sans Frontières warned of a severe
cholera outbreak in the
Democratic Republic of Congo with over 58,000 suspected cases and more than 1,700 deaths between January and mid-October, spreading to 20 of the country's 26 provinces.
Peru: Anthrax

Peru's Ministry of Health confirmed six cases of cutaneous
anthrax in Cañete province, with all affected individuals having had contact with sick animals and receiving treatment from health services.
Hong Kong: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection reported the territory's first
chikungunya fatality - a 77-year-old male who returned from mainland China on October 13 and died from complications including multi-organ failure. So far this year, Hong Kong has recorded a total of 43 confirmed chikungunya cases. All were imported cases.
Czech Republic: Hepatitis A [Update]

Prague is experiencing a significant
hepatitis A outbreak with over 60 new cases reported in the past week, equivalent to the previous three years combined, with Czech Republic documenting 1,842 cases nationwide and 21 deaths as of October 5.
USA: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

New York health officials confirmed the first locally acquired
chikungunya case in the state, located in Nassau County, Long Island, marking the first documented case of local transmission in the United States since 2019.
USA: Measles [Update]

South Carolina's Upstate region reported four additional
measles cases in Spartanburg County, bringing the year's total to 23 cases with 20 attributed to the current outbreak.
Samoa: Dengue Fever [Update]
24 October 2025
Samoa's Ministry of Health reported 14,996 clinically diagnosed and 4,362 lab-confirmed
dengue cases, since January, including 61 new confirmed cases and seven dengue-related deaths, through October 12.
Australia: Mpox

Victoria state health officials reported 10
mpox cases since mid-September, with nine cases locally acquired in metropolitan Melbourne.
Pakistan: Poliomyelitis [Update]
24 October 2025
Pakistan confirmed its 30th wild
poliovirus case of 2025, a 12-month-old boy from District Torghar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, marking the second case from that district this year with 19 cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, nine in Sindh, and one each in Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.
USA: Dengue Fever [Update]

Florida reported its 50th locally transmitted
dengue case in 2025, occurring in Brevard County on the state's east coast, marking the 34th local transmission in that county alone with additional cases in Hillsborough, Miami-Dade (14 cases), and Pasco counties.
Greece: West Nile Virus Infection [Update]

Since the beginning of the year through October 15,
Greece recorded 94 domestic
West Nile virus cases, of which 76 were neuroinvasive and 18 with mild or no symptoms.
Taiwan: Dengue Fever [Update]

The
Taiwan Centers for Disease Control announced today that there were three new local
Dengue fever cases (two in Tainan City’s South District and one in Taoyuan City’s Taoyuan District).
Argentina: Pertussis
21 October 2025
A
Pertussis outbreak is reported in the capital city of Tiera del Fuego, Ushuaia, in
Argentina. To date, 58 confirmed cases have been reported, out of 135 suspected cases and more than 700 close contacts, in the capital of Tierra del Fuego.
Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

The
Senegal Ministère de la Santé et de l’Hygiène publique reported in an update today that the number of confirmed
Rift Valley fever cases have risen to 245 in six regions.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Virus Disease [Update]
21 October 2025
The World Health Organization reported today that the last
Ebola patient in the
Democratic Republic of the Congo was discharged today. No new cases have been reported since 25 September.
Bangladesh: Dengue Fever [Update]

The Directorate General of Health Services in
Dhaka reported an additional 950
Dengue fever hospitalizations in the past 24 hours, bringing the country total to 59,849.
South Korea: Influenza

The
Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency issued a “
Influenza Outbreak Alert“ on Friday, October 17th due to an increase in the number of influenza patients, and urged people to get vaccinated against influenza and follow respiratory infection prevention guidelines.

Cambodia Ministry of Health reports there is another case of bird flu in a 3-year-old girl who was confirmed positive for the
H5N1 avian influenza virus.
