Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Cambodia: Avian Influenza [Update]

The
Cambodia Ministry of Health reported an additional case of H5N1
avian influenza in a 6-year-old boy from Bos Russey village, Doun Tei commune, Ponhea Krek district, Tbong Khmum province.
Zimbabwe: Malaria

From the beginning of the year through July 6, 126,229 confirmed
malaria cases were reported across
Zimbabwe. This represents a 296.8 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024 (31,813).
France: Dengue Fever and Chikungunya Fever [Update]

As of July 22, 2025, fifteen episodes of indigenous arbovirus transmission (12
chikungunya and 3
dengue) have been identified in mainland
France.
Samoa: Dengue Fever [Update]
25 July 2025
Samoa health officials reported an additional 331 lab-confirmed
dengue cases the week ending July 13, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1276.
Mainland China: Chikungunya fever [Update]

As of 25 July 2025, a total of 3,317 confirmed cases of
Chikungunya fever have been reported in
Shunde District, Foshan City, mainly concentrated in Lecong Town, Beijiao Town, and Chencun Town, all of which are mild cases.
USA: Pertussis [Update]
22 July 2025
Mississippi state health officials issued a health alert warning the public about an increase in
pertussis cases in the state. According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, as of July 10, 2025, 80 pertussis cases have been reported from all nine Public Health Districts compared to 49 cases in 2024.
Bolivia: Measles [Update]
22 July 2025
In a follow-up on the
measles outbreak in
Bolivia, the Vice Minister of Promotion, Epidemiological Surveillance, and Traditional Medicine, reported this Sunday that Bolivia has reported 148 cases of measles, 124 of which are in the department of Santa Cruz.
Poland: Cholera

Poland's Chief Sanitary Inspector, confirmed on Sunday morning the country’s first domestic
cholera case since 2019.
USA: Salmonella [Update]
22 July 2025
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with public health officials in several states and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, are investigating an outbreak of
Salmonella infections in eleven people from ten states linked to recalled frozen sprouted beans that may be contaminated.
Zambia: Meningitis
22 July 2025
The
Zambia Ministry of Health reported an outbreak of
meningitis with 83 cases (5 confirmed; 78 suspected) and no deaths from Mwense district, Luapula province earlier this month. Streptococcus pneumoniae was isolated from all confirmed cases.
United Kingdom: Measles [Update]
22 July 2025
Public Health
Scotland reported that, as of 9 July, there have been 27 cases of laboratory confirmed
measles in Scotland in 2025.
Philippines: Mpox [Update]
22 July 2025
In a follow-up report from one month ago, the Dinagat Provincial Health Office reports a confirmed
mpox case in a patient. This is the second confirmed mpox case in Caraga region.
Colombia: Yellow Fever [Update]
22 July 2025
The department of Tolima, in the center-west of
Colombia, reached 100 confirmed cases of
yellow fever, with a total of 35 deaths.
Argentina: Trichinosis
22 July 2025
An outbreak of human
trichinosis has been reported in the town of Azul in
Buenos Aires province. So far, 28 people have been treated in the emergency room of a hospital in Buenos Aires.
Nigeria: Cholera, Yellow Fever and Dengue Fever

Nigeria officials issue nationwide alert over
cholera,
yellow fever and
dengue fever due to flood season. As of Epidemiological Week 26 (23rd – 29th June 2025), 34 states have reported cases of cholera, with Zamfara State accounting for 32% of all suspected cases. Throughout 2025, suspected yellow fever cases have been reported across Nigeria, including seven confirmed cases in six states. Additionally, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed an outbreak of dengue fever in Edo State between June 9th and 13th, 2025.

The Health Bureau of
Shunde District, Foshan City reported that as of July 20, 2025, a total of 2,158 confirmed cases of
chikungunya fever has been reported in Shunde District, mainly concentrated in Lecong Town, Beijiao Town, and Chencun Town.
Italy, France: Chikungunya Fever
22 July 2025
Italy has reported its first local
chikungunya case since 2017, in Piacenza province, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said today in its latest weekly communicable disease report.
France has now confirmed 30 cases in 12 different administrative regions.
