Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Ethiopia: Marburg Virus Disease

Ethiopia has reported 12 confirmed cases of
Marburg virus disease with 8 deaths, marking the country's first-ever recorded outbreak. Isolation centres have been established in affected areas with trained personnel and medical supplies deployed.
Vietnam: Dengue Fever
1 December 2025
Vietnam reported 110,503
dengue fever cases and 23 deaths from January to October 2025, representing a 16.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
USA: Pertussis
1 December 2025
Kentucky reported 566 confirmed
pertussis cases as of November 19, 2025, with 3 infant deaths in the past 12 months, marking the first whooping cough deaths in the state since 2018 and the largest spike in cases since 2012.
India: Rabies

The US CDC issued a travel notice for
India regarding
rabies following two human deaths in 2025, including a child who was exposed through a dog bite in
India and died after returning to the
United States. The CDC also warned of counterfeit rabies vaccines circulating in major
Indian cities.
Namibia: Measles
1 December 2025
Namibia reported 198 confirmed
measles cases with 2 deaths. Mass vaccination campaigns and health education activities are ongoing in affected areas.

Namibia reported 3
cholera cases localised to
Grootfontein. Intensive health education in native languages is underway.
USA: Measles

Arizona reported 153
measles cases, with 149 in
Mohave County and 4 in
Navajo County, concentrated along the
Arizona-Utah border. This is the second-largest measles outbreak in the nation this year, with 96% of cases being unvaccinated.

measles outbreak in
South Carolina has risen to 62 cases in the
Spartanburg County area, with 58 unvaccinated and 3 partially vaccinated individuals affected. Nationally, the
United States has reported 1,798 confirmed cases across 43 jurisdictions with 3 deaths in 2025.
USA: Influenza
1 December 2025
Vermont reported a case of novel
influenza A(H1N2)v variant virus, the second such case in the
United States in 2025. The individual was hospitalised but discharged the same day and has recovered. No human-to-human transmission was identified.
USA: Measles

Utah reported 102 confirmed
measles cases, with 74 cases (73%) in
Southwest Utah and 62 cases in children under 18 years of age. Eleven cases required hospitalisation.
Philippines: Leptospirosis
1 December 2025
Negros Occidental in the
Philippines reported 90 confirmed
leptospirosis cases with 4 deaths following flooding from Typhoon Tino. Health authorities anticipate case numbers will increase.
USA: Dengue Fever

Florida reported 60 locally acquired
dengue fever cases in 2025, with most cases in
Brevard County (35) and
Miami-Dade County (23). An additional 390 travel-associated cases were also reported.
New Zealand: Pertussis
1 December 2025
New Zealand reported 3,434
pertussis cases through November 14, 2025, with 299 hospitalisations and 1 death. Of the 288 cases in infants under 1 year old, 146 (52%) required hospitalisation. The epidemic was declared on November 22, 2024.
Israel: Measles

Israel reported 2,093
measles cases and 10 deaths in 2025, with the most recent death being an unvaccinated one-year-old toddler from
Tiberias. Affected areas include
Jerusalem,
Beit Shemesh,
Bnei Brak,
Haifa, and other municipalities.
Senegal: Rift Valley Fever

Senegal reported 505 confirmed
Rift Valley fever cases with 31 deaths as of November 24, 2025, affecting 11 regions.
Saint-Louis region has the highest number of cases (352), followed by
Matam (36),
Fatick (36), and
Kaolack (25).
Philippines: Leptospirosis [Update]

Health authorities in
Negro Occidental have reported 90
leptospirosis cases, including four deaths following flooding brought on by Typhoon Tino. Officials expect the numbers to increase.
USA: Dengue Fever [Update]

The
Florida Department of Health reported two additional locally acquired
dengue fever cases in the past week from Miami-Dade County, bringing the state total to 60 year to date.
The cases have been four counties: Brevard (35), Hillsborough, Miami-Dade (23), and Pasco.
New Zealand: Pertussis
27 November 2025
A national
pertussis epidemic was declared on November 22, 2024 following an increase in cases throughout
New Zealand beginning on October 19, 2024.
Through November 14, 2025, New Zealand reports a total of 3434 confirmed, probable and suspect cases of pertussis were notified; overall, 299 cases (9.1%) were hospitalized and there has been one death; of the 288 cases (8.4%) aged less than 1 year, 146 (52.0%) were hospitalized.
Israel: Measles [Update]

The
Israel Ministry of Health has reported an additional
measles death in the country in a one-year-old toddler from Tiberias who was not vaccinated. This is the 10th measles death in Israel this year.
Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

The
Senegal Ministère de la Santé et de l’Hygiène publique reports that as of November 24, 505 confirmed
Rift Valley fever cases have been reported from 11 regions in the country since the outbreak started in late September. The 11 affected regions include - Saint-Louis (352), Matam (36), Louga (21), Fatick (36), Dakar (15), Kaolack (25), Thiès (4), Tambacounda (9), Kédougou (2), Kaffrine (2) and Kolda (3).
Mauritania: Dengue Fever

Mauritania has reported 7,179
dengue fever cases (4,029 confirmed, 3,150 suspected) and 1 death, with 13 of 15 regions affected.
South Nouakchott region accounts for more than one-third of confirmed cases, making
Mauritania the second-highest affected country in
Africa for 2025.
Bangladesh: Dengue Fever

Bangladesh has reported over 90,000
dengue fever cases and 366 deaths in 2025. The
Barishal division recorded the highest case count with 20,224 cases, followed by
Dhaka with 15,514 cases.
Namibia: Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever

Namibia has confirmed 1 fatal case of
Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever in
Windhoek. The patient was admitted on 18 November and died the following day. The Ministry of Health has declared an outbreak due to the disease's high fatality rate.
Mexico: Measles
25 November 2025
Mexico has reported 5,314 confirmed
measles cases and 23 deaths across 27 states.
Chihuahua state is the most affected with 4,451 cases. Children aged 0-4 years have the highest incidence rate.
USA: Shigellosis
25 November 2025
Maine CDC is investigating a
shigellosis cluster of 7 cases across
Cumberland,
Kennebec, and
Androscoggin counties. Maine has reported 22 cases in 2025, double the five-year median of 11 annual cases.
Zimbabwe: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease
25 November 2025
Harare,
Zimbabwe has reported 575 confirmed
hand, foot and mouth disease cases as of 20 November 2025. Approximately 90% of infections are among children under five years old, with the
Mabvuku and
Tafara suburbs recording over 100 cases combined.
Ecuador: Chikungunya Fever
25 November 2025
Ecuador has reported 2 imported
chikungunya fever cases in travellers from
Cuba, where over 20,000 cases have been reported. Ecuador's Ministry of Public Health has intensified surveillance at entry points.
Jamaica: Leptospirosis
25 November 2025
Jamaica has reported 9 confirmed and 28 suspected
leptospirosis cases with 6 suspected deaths between 30 October and 20 November 2025. The outbreak is linked to flooding from Hurricane Melissa, which struck on 28 October.
St. James parish reported the highest number with 17 cases.
Czech Republic: Hepatitis A
25 November 2025
Czech Republic has reported 2,597
hepatitis A cases and 29 deaths in 2025, four times higher than 2024 and the highest since 1989. Over 100 new cases are reported weekly since September, with
Prague accounting for 42% of cases (1,108 cases).
Croatia: Influenza
25 November 2025
Croatia has reported 1,634
influenza cases with 59 hospitalisations during the first seven weeks of the 2025/2026 flu season. The
Split-Dalmatia,
Istria, and
Dubrovnik-Neretva counties recorded the highest rates. Influenza A/H1N1pdm09 is the predominant strain.
USA: Avian Influenza

A
Grays Harbor County,
Washington resident has died from
avian influenza A(H5N5), marking the first recorded human infection with this variant globally. The patient, an older adult with underlying health conditions, was exposed through a backyard poultry flock.
Cameroon: Cholera
25 November 2025
Cameroon has reported 2
cholera cases (1 confirmed, 1 suspected) in the
Mayo Oulo district of the
North Region. The outbreak was confirmed on 9 November 2025 following a cross-border alert from
Nigeria.
Italy: Chikungunya Fever
25 November 2025
Italy has reported 385 indigenous
chikungunya fever cases in 2025, with major clusters in
Emilia-Romagna (318 cases in
Modena Province) and
Veneto (61 cases in
Verona Province). Including travel-related cases, the total reaches 453.
Philippines: Dengue Fever
25 November 2025
The
MIMAROPA region in the
Philippines has reported 13,014
dengue fever cases and 79 deaths year-to-date.
Palawan province accounts for the majority with 7,079 cases and 48 deaths. Nearly half of all cases affect children aged 1-10 years.
USA: Measles [Update]

The
measles outbreak in
Upstate South Carolina has grown to 55 cases since July, with 52 centred in
Spartanburg County. There are now 137 people in quarantine across multiple schools. Of the 55 cases, 49 were unvaccinated and 2 were partially vaccinated.
