Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Ghana: Typhoid Fever

A surge in
typhoid fever cases has been reported in
Ghana’s Oti Region, affecting the districts of
Biakoye,
Krachi East,
Krachi West, and
Krachi Nchumuru.
Senegal: Mpox
1 September 2025
Senegal has reported its first
mpox case of 2025, involving a foreign national who arrived on August 19 and was hospitalized in
Dakar on August 21.
Bangladesh: Dengue Fever [Update]

Bangladesh has reported 30,376 confirmed
dengue cases with 118 deaths through August 28, with
Barisal reporting 9,929 cases and
Dhaka South City Corporation accounting for 57 deaths.
USA: Dengue Fever

Florida has reported 16 locally transmitted
dengue cases in 2025, with
Brevard County (11 cases),
Miami-Dade (3),
Hillsborough (1), and
Pasco (1) affected.
Israel: Measles [Update]
1 September 2025
Israel has reported 770
measles cases with 2 toddler deaths, with 24 currently hospitalized and high-risk areas including
Jerusalem,
Beit Shemesh,
Bnei Brak, and the
Galilee region.
Italy: West Nile Virus [Update]
1 September 2025
Italy has reported 430 confirmed
West Nile virus cases with 27 deaths across 15 regions, with 193 neuroinvasive cases and virus circulation in 57 provinces.
Taiwan: Mpox
1 September 2025
Taiwan has reported 3 local
mpox cases in men aged 20s to 40s, with 1 case in
northern Taiwan and 2 in
central Taiwan, bringing the total to 483 confirmed cases.
Papua New Guinea: Polio
1 September 2025
Papua New Guinea has confirmed its first human
polio case involving a 4-year-old unvaccinated boy in
Lae, Morobe Province, with national vaccination coverage at 41.2% as of August 26.
Taiwan: Melioidosis and Leptospirosis [Update]

Taiwan has reported 9 new
melioidosis cases (1 fatal) and 6
leptospirosis cases, with 2025 totals reaching 50 melioidosis cases (5 deaths) and 34 leptospirosis cases.

chikungunya case on August 30, 2025, classified as a mild case.
France: Chikungunya Fever, Dengue Fever and West Nile Virus [Update]

As of August 26, 2025, 228 indigenous
chikungunya cases have been reported on
Mainland France.
In addition, 15 local
dengue fever cases have been reported.
15 human cases of vector-borne
West Nile virus infection have been identified in five departments in mainland France.
Pakistan: Poliomyelitis [Update]

In a follow-up on the wild
poliovirus situation in
Pakistan so far in 2025, the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, has confirmed two new poliovirus cases from South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. With these detections, the total number of polio cases in
Pakistan in 2025 has reached 23.
Taiwan: Dengue Fever

The
Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced today the first local case of
dengue fever in Taiwan, which is a community cluster outbreak with a total of 4 confirmed cases, all of whom live in Gushan District, Kaohsiung City.
USA: Plague [Update]
28 August 2025
The
New Mexico Department of Health reports a case of
plague in a 43-year-old man from Valencia County. The man was hospitalized and has since been discharged. This marks the first human case of plague in New Mexico this year and the third human case in the
US- California and
Arizona.
Hong Kong: Chikungunya Fever [Update]
28 August 2025
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) announced that as of 5pm today (August 27), one new imported case of
chikungunya fever (CF) had been recorded. So far this year,
Hong Kong has recorded a total of 12 confirmed CF cases.
Mainland China: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

On August 26, 2025, four new confirmed cases of
chikungunya fever were reported in
Shunde district, primarily in Lecong, Beijiao, and Chencun Towns. All were mild cases.
