Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Malaysia: Rabies [Update]
31 October 2025
Malaysia's Sarawak Health Department reported the sixth human
rabies fatality of 2025, a 51-year-old male who handled his deceased pet dog's carcass in June and died in October after symptoms began on October 8.
Mauritania: Rift Valley Fever

Mauritania reported 176
Rift Valley fever cases (42 confirmed, 134 suspected) with 14 deaths across 11 of 15 regions, with eight out of 10 cases affecting males.
Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

Senegal's Ministry of Health reported 343 confirmed
Rift Valley fever cases across eight regions including
Saint-Louis (271 cases),
Matam (20), and
Louga (18), with 270 patients recovered since the outbreak began in September.
USA: Measles [Update]

South Carolina reported eight additional
measles cases in
Spartanburg County bringing the year's total to 33 cases with 30 attributed to the current Upstate outbreak, while the
Chicago region confirmed five cases since September with four epidemiologically linked cases in
suburban Cook County through airplane exposure at
O'Hare International Airport and one case in
Lake County, Indiana.
USA: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

Washington, DC reported 197 emergency department visits for
hand, foot and mouth disease among children in September 2025, representing a 212% increase compared to 63 visits in September 2024, primarily affecting children under five years old.
Bulgaria: Anthrax

The
Bulgarian Food Safety Agency confirmed an
anthrax case at a sheep and cattle farm in
Harmanli village, Slavyanovo in the country's southeast, with laboratory testing verifying *Bacillus anthracis* at the facility housing approximately 200 sheep and 100 cattle.
Canada: Salmonella

Canadian Public Health Agency reported 32
salmonella cases across four provinces linked to raw pet treats, with
Alberta (14 cases) and
British Columbia (15 cases) most affected, resulting in eight hospitalizations.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Measles

South Kivu province in the
Democratic Republic of Congo reported 7,623
measles cases with 160 deaths since January 2025, with the most severely impacted health zones being
Kamituga,
Kitutu, and
Nyangezi.
Brazil: Dengue Fever [Update]
28 October 2025
Data released this Monday by the State Department of Health and Central Public Health Laboratory indicates a 7,166% increase in confirmed DENV-3
dengue cases in
Santa Catarina in 2025, rising from 3 to 218 between January 1 and October 24. So far, there have been 25,371 probable dengue cases, with 17,859 confirmed in the state this year.
Czech Republic: Hepatitis A [Update]

In a follow-up on the
hepatitis A epidemic in the
Czech Republic in 2025, the outbreak that started last April in isolated areas of Ostrava, has grown to 2,141 cases and 26 deaths, ten of them in Prague.
Senegal: Rift Valley Fever [Update]

The
Senegal Ministère de la Santé et de l’Hygiène publique reported 13 additional confirmed
Rift Valley fever cases yesterday, bringing the outbreak total to 324.
Israel: Measles [Update]
28 October 2025
The
Israel Ministry of Health reported Sunday on an additional
measles death in the country. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 1,778 recorded cases of the measles and 574 hospitalizations.
USA: West Nile Virus Infection [Update]

Los Angeles County health officials reported the first local death due to
West Nile virus for the 2025 mosquito season. A total of 14 West Nile virus infections have been documented in Los Angeles County so far this year.
Bangladesh: Dengue Fever [Update]

The
Bangladesh Directorate General of Health Services reported 1,143 new
dengue fever hospitalizations in the past 24 hours, in a press release today. This brings the total dengue cases in the country to 65,440 through October 26.
Hong Kong: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

In
Hong Kong, the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health announced the investigation into a locally acquired case of
chikungunya- the first such case in Hong Kong.
Panama: Oropouche fever [Update]

The National Head of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Health in
Panama, reported that more than 600
Oropouche cases have been recorded nationwide to date, leading to increased prevention and control efforts.
France: Chikungunya Fever, Dengue Fever [Update]

Sante publique France reports, as of October 20, 766 locally acquired chikungunya cases were reported in mainland France.
In addition, 29 local transmissions of dengue fever have been reported this year.
Mexico: Rickettsial Disease [Update]

The
Chihuahua State Health Secretariat reports as of October 20, the state has recorded 89 confirmed cases of
rickettsiosis, a slight increase from 2024 (82), with 43 deaths in various municipalities- 45 cases and 26 deaths in the capital city.
Mexico: Measles [Update]

In a follow-up on the
measles situation in
Mexico in 2025, the Mexico Ministry of Health reports as of October 24, 2025, 5,053 confirmed cases of measles in the country. Based on the distribution of cases by state and municipality, 25 states and 127 municipalities have confirmed cases of measles.
USA: Mpox (monkeypox) [Update]

King County health officials reported 45 new cases of
mpox in September, the highest number of cases in a month since the initial mpox outbreak in King County in 2022.
Brazil: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

Chikungunya continues to be the biggest public health concern in the capital city of
Mato Grosso state this year. According to the State Health Department’s Epidemiological Bulletin, there have been 10,978 confirmed cases in Cuiabá in 2025, with an incidence of 1,240.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

South Carolina measles outbreak has grown by 2 more cases, raising the state total to 25 with 22 attributed to the current outbreak.
