Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad

Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa. It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.

Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Cholera [Update]

7 September 2026

The Provincial Health Division in South Kivu reported 449 suspected cases of cholera, including 13 deaths, during the 33rd epidemiological week or late August and early September 2026.

Of the 34 health zones in the province of South Kivu, 17 reported at least 1 suspected case during that week.

France: Salmonella

7 September 2026

The National Reference Centre (NRC) for Salmonella at the Pasteur Institute has identified a cluster of 81 Salmonella Enteritidis strains with the same genomic profile.

The strains were isolated from individuals who became ill between May 3 and August 12, 2026. The cluster comprises 56 women and 25 men, with an average age of 36.

USA: Cryptosporidiosis

7 September 2026

Health officials in San Diego County report reported on the investigation cryptosporidiosis exposure at swimming pools, spas, and the water park at the Gaylord Pacific Resort in Chula Vista.

Resort guests reported illnesses after visiting the resort’s pools between July 24 and Aug. 15. Three cases were confirmed through laboratory testing, and a fourth was reported by a family member.

USA: Vibrio vulnificus infection [Update]

7 September 2026

Florida state health officials reported three additional Vibrio vulnificus cases and one death in the past week, bringing the totals to 20 cases and four deaths year to date.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) today announced that 577 measles cases have been confirmed across 37 counties in Pennsylvania so far in 2026.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Disease [Update]

7 September 2026

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Ministry of Health (MOH) reported in a publication Thursday, 92 new confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)—including 24 community deaths—were reported in the past 24 hours in the provinces of Ituri (60 cases), North Kivu (25), Haut-Uélé (5), and Tshopo (2). Additionally, 9 deaths occurred within Ebola Treatment Centers (ETCs)—6 in Ituri, 2 in North Kivu, and 1 in Haut-Uélé—bringing the total number of deaths for the day to 33.

USA: Dengue fever [Update]

In a follow up on the local transmission of dengue fever in Florida, state health officials reported an additional 32 locally acquired dengue fever cases during the week ending August 29, bringing the total autochthonous cases in the state to 73.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health today announced that 540 measles cases have been confirmed in Pennsylvania so far in 2026.

Chinese Mainland: Avian Influenza [Update]

The World Health Organization reported two additional avian influenza A (H9N2) virus during the past two weeks of August in Anhui and Beijing provinces.

Argentina: Hydatidosis

3 September 2026

Two new cases of hydatidosis have been reported, one in the Capital department and one in Rivadavia, during the last epidemiological week. The cumulative total for 2026 is 20 cases, according to the Ministry of Health in Argentina.

Officials in Vienna, Austria report a confirmed Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever infection is currently being treated at the Favoriten Clinic of the Vienna Healthcare Group.

The Ministry of Health in Isreal reports that since the beginning of the West Nile fever season to date, 20 patients have been diagnosed, of whom one person is still hospitalized and one person has died.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Disease [Update]

3 September 2026

By the end of the day on August 30, 2026, 59 new confirmed cases of Ebola Disease including 19 community deaths, had been reported across the provinces of Ituri (44 cases), North Kivu (8), Haut-Uélé (6), and Bas-Uélé (1), according to the Democratic Republic of the Congo Ministry of Health.
