Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

USA: Cyclosporiasis [Update]

The Florida Department of Health in
Santa Rosa County, in the panhandle, temporarily closed the Navarre Park Splash Pad, 8513 Navarre Parkway in Navarre, after a confirmed exposure to
Cryptosporidium was reported.

measles in middle Tennessee, the first in the state this year.
USA: Chagas Disease

San Diego County Public Health recently confirmed the region’s first locally acquired case of
Chagas disease, identified during routine blood donation screening in a donor without symptoms.
Brazil: Dengue Fever [Update]
13 July 2026
As of June 22nd, the
Minas Gerais Health Department registered 64,304 probable
dengue fever cases. Of this total, 36,517 cases were confirmed for the disease, and there are 39 deaths under investigation. To date, there are 32 confirmed deaths from dengue fever in the state.
Brazil: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

The
Minas Gerais Health Department has registered 13,894 probable cases of
chikungunya fever, of which 10,634 have been confirmed, and there are five deaths under investigation. To date, there are three confirmed deaths from the disease in the state.
Nigeria: Lassa Fever [Update]

According to the
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, since the beginning of the year through the end of June, 2026, 922 confirmed
Lassa fever cases have been reported in the country, up from 790 cases reported during the same period in 2025.
Italy: Dengue Fever

Since the beginning of the year as of June 30, 169 confirmed cases of
dengue have been reported in
Italy, all travel-related. The vast majority of these cases (71%) had their source of exposure in the Maldives.
Cambodia: Avian Influenza [Update]

The Cambodia Ministry of Health reports today on a human H5N1
avian influenza case in a 9-month-old girl from Prek Takong village in the Phnom Penh
Meanchey district.
Argentina: Trichinosis

Health authorities in the municipality of
General Madariaga, in Buenos Aires Province, declared a state of health alert after confirming an outbreak of
trichinosis that registered six positive cases and 45 people under medical supervision.
Costa Rica: Mpox

The Costa Rica Ministry of Health reports two confirmed cases of
mpox in two men, who are residents of the province of
San José.
USA: Legionnaires' Disease [Update]

New York City health officials, in an update Friday, report 54
Legionnaires’ disease cases in a cluster in the Upper East Side neighborhoods of Carnegie Hill and Yorkville.
Sri Lanka: Dengue Fever [Update]

According to
Sri Lanka health officials, 7,916 additional suspected
dengue fever cases were reported during the week ending July 10. This is a 32 percent increase compared to the week prior when 5,998 cases were reported.
Philippines: Chikungunya Fever

The Provincial Health Office
Samar has issued a health advisory urging the public to remain vigilant against
chikungunya. Two villages in the municipality of Gandara in Samar have been placed under Code Red after 84 people reportedly contracted chikungunya.
Spain: Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever

Health officials in the Spanish autonomous community of Castile and León reported last month on a confirmed locally acquired
Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever case in
Salamanca province.
Mexico: Measles [Update]
13 July 2026
The
Mexico Ministry of Health reports that the total confirmed
measles cases since the beginning of the year is now 12,092. The most confirmed cases are from Jalisco state (6574), Mexico City (1005) and Chiapas state (845).
United Kingdom: Measles [Update]

According to a UK Health Security Agency update this week, between January 1, 2026 and July 6, 2026 there have been 883 laboratory confirmed
measles cases reported in
England, an increase of 82 cases since the last report two weeks ago.
USA: Cyclosporiasis [Update]

The
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reports, as of today, the
cyclospora outbreak case count has reached 1,251, by far the largest numbers in the country. In
Ohio, officially, as of July 2, 177 cyclosporiasis cases have been reported in the state in 2026.
New York state has recorded 394 confirmed cases. Both
North Carolina and
Illinois are reporting in excess of 100 cases each. Other states recording notable activity include
Texas,
Colorado (90 cases), and
Indiana (72 cases).
Pakistan: Naegleria fowleri

Health officials in
Karachi, Pakistan report the first “brain-eating amoeba” death caused by the parasite,
Naegleria fowleri, of the year in a 44 year old man.
Uruguay: Syphilis

Syphilis continues to rise in
Uruguay and the region. According to data from the Epidemiological Bulletin corresponding to epidemiological week 23, in 2026 there were 3,669 notifications of syphilis, compared to 2,618 in the same period of 2025.
USA: Escherichia Coli

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and public health officials in several states are investigating a multistate outbreak of
E. coli O145 infections linked to frozen blueberries.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Disease [Update]
9 July 2026
In an update on the
Ebola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, since the beginning of the outbreak, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reported 1624 confirmed cases, including 521 confirmed deaths (CFR 32.1%). Ituri Province remains the epicenter of the outbreak, accounting for 90.9% (1477) of all confirmed cases and 84.3% (439) of all reported deaths nationwide.
Costa Rica: Chikungunya Fever [Update]
9 July 2026
The
Costa Rica Ministry of Health (MOH) reports a
chikungunya outbreak in Playa Langosta, Santa Cruz canton, Guanacaste on July 1. During epidemiological surveillance, 45 suspected cases were identified, and samples were taken for analysis. As a result, four cases were laboratory-confirmed, and another 17 are considered probable and are associated with the outbreak.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Disease [Update]

According to the latest data from the
Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Ministry of Health, the DRC has recorded 1,561 cumulative confirmed
Ebola Disease cases, including 628 patients in isolation or hospitalized, 253 recoveries, and 506 deaths among confirmed cases in the three provinces of Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu, representing a case fatality rate of 32.4%.
USA: West Nile Virus Infection [Update]

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement that the
West Nile virus season in the
United States is having its earliest start in 22 years. At least 48 cases have been reported as of June 30, 2026: 38 have been cases of severe neuroinvasive disease.
USA: Cyclosporiasis [Update]

An outbreak of
cyclosporiasis is spreading across the
United States and the state of
Ohio is reporting some of the highest number of cases. According to the Ohio Department of Health, 177 cases of cyclosporiasis have been reported in 43 counties so far in 2026.

A human case of
anthrax was confirmed in Uvs Province, western
Mongolia, the country’s National Center for Zoonotic Diseases reported on June 22.
Honduras: Pertussis [Update]

The Ministry of Health of
Honduras reports that
pertussis has so far caused 14 deaths and resulted in more than 180 cases—both confirmed and suspected.
USA: Legionnaires' Disease

The
New York City Health Department is currently responding to a cluster of individuals with
Legionnaires’ disease in Manhattan. Officials report two confirmed cases, no deaths, and additional suspected cases that are pending confirmation through July 2.
Sri Lanka: Dengue Fever [Update]
7 July 2026
The
Sri Lanka National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry of Health reported 21,547
dengue fever cases in June and already 3,422 cases in the first days of July, bringing the outbreak total in the country to 58,810 through July 3.
USA: Powassan Virus

The
Maine Department of Health and Human Services’ Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed
Powassan virus (POW) in a Maine resident in Penobscot County. This is the first confirmed detection of POW in Maine in 2026.
Liberia: Yellow Fever

The National Public Health Institute of
Liberia reported one confirmed
yellow fever case in a 50-year-old male from Polar Town, Gbao health district in Grand Gedah County on June 22.
Central African Republic: Cholera
7 July 2026
The government of the
Central African Republic announced a
cholera outbreak in Bangui on June 26. The Minister of Public Health reported 197 confirmed cases and 24 deaths. The case fatality rate is 12.2%.
Uganda: Ebola Disease [Update]

The
Uganda Ministry of Health has reported a total of 20 confirmed
Ebola Disease cases, including two deaths.
Iraq: Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever [Update]

As of 15 June 2026,
Iraq has reported 171 confirmed
Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever cases and 11 associated deaths, resulting in a case fatality rate (CFR) of 6.4 per cent.
