Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad

Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa. It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.

Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

India: Nipah Virus Infection [Update]

The Health Minister of Kerala state in southern India has confirmed one positive case of Nipah virus infection in Ramanattukara municipality, Kozhikode district.

Mexico: Measles [Update]

In a follow-up on the measles outbreak in Mexico, the Ministry of Health reported three additional measles deaths in Zacatecas state (2) and Mexico City, bringing the death toll since the beginning of the year to 16.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Disease [Update]

15 June 2026

The Democratic Republic of the Congo Ministry of Health reports 21 additional confirmed Ebola cases (15 cases in Ituri province and 6 cases in North Kivu) and 10 deaths through June 12. This brings the cumulative totals to 710 confirmed cases and 149 deaths.

French Guiana: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

15 June 2026

In a follow-up on the chikungunya outbreak in French Guiana, Santé Publique France reports since the first confirmed case of chikungunya was detected in late January, 621 cases have been confirmed in the country, including 437 in the West Coast region (70%), which remains an epidemic.

Yemen: Malaria [Update]

15 June 2026

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a travel notice (Level 2 - Practice Enhanced Precautions) due to an increase of malaria in Yemen. Epidemiological surveillance data for 2025 recorded 116,000 confirmed malaria cases in the country, with 1259 hospitalizations and 11 deaths, according to news outlets citing the Ministry of Health in Sana’a.

Zimbabwe: Malaria

Health officials in Zimbabwe are reporting an increase in malaria in Mashonaland West Province in the northern part of the country.
Since the beginning of the year, 14,730 cumulative malaria cases and 56 deaths have been reported.

Bangladesh: Measles [Update]

11 June 2026

In a follow-up on the measles epidemic in Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services reported an additional 1,092 total measles cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the country total to 80,104, including 9,779 confirmed cases, since March 15.
