Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Mexico: Measles [Update]
19 January 2026
The
Mexico Ministry of Health reported 6,427 confirmed
measles cases and 24 deaths from 31 states in 2025, with 70 percent of the cases reported in Chihuahua and 10 percent in Jalisco. Measles continues in Mexico in 2026, with 506 confirmed cases reported in the first two weeks of the year, with more than half reported in Jalisco.
Czech Republic: Influenza
19 January 2026
In the current flu season, a total of 151 clinically serious cases of
influenza infection requiring hospitalization in intensive care have been reported in the
Czech Republic as of January 9. 49 people have died from the infection. The majority, 44, are in the age group of adults 65 and older.
France: Measles [Update]
19 January 2026
From January 1 to December 31, 2025, 873 cases of
measles were reported in
France, according to Sante publique France data.
Argentina: Hantavirus Infection [Update]
19 January 2026
In
Argentina, nationally, from Epidemiological Week 1 to Epidemiological Week 53 of 2025, 86 confirmed cases of
hantavirus were reported, of which 28 died, representing a case fatality rate of 33.6%.
Taiwan: Hepatitis A

The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently stated that the number of acute viral
hepatitis A cases in
Taiwan has been on the rise since March 2025 and has not yet slowed down. According to data from the CDC, there were a total of 477 confirmed cases of acute hepatitis A in 2025, including 447 locally transmitted cases and 30 imported cases.
USA: Measles [Update]

Health officials in Snohomish County and King County,
Washington report being notified of three confirmed
measles cases recently. In South Carolina, where a very active outbreak is ongoing, 434 cases have been reported as of January 13.
USA: Measles [Update]

The
South Carolina Department of Public Health reported an additional 124 confirmed
measles cases since Tuesday and 248 cases since last Friday. This brings the outbreak total to 558 cases since the outbreak was confirmed on October of last year.
Israel: Measles [Update]

The
Israel Ministry of Health reports that an 11-month-old baby with no underlying health conditions, who had not been vaccinated, died today due to complications from
measles. Since the beginning of 2025, Israel has reported 2,659 total measles cases and 13 deaths.
Guatemala: Measles

The
Guatemala Ministry of Health are reporting a measles outbreak in the city of Santiago Atitlán in Sololá department. To date, 10
measles cases have been reported.
Cuba: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

According to UN health authorities, there were 51,217 total
chikungunya cases reported in
Cuba in 2025, including nearly 2,000 confirmed cases.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Cholera [Update]

Haut-Lomami province in southern
Democratic Republic of the Congo experienced a resurgence of
cholera cases in 2025. 6,120 cases were recorded, including 127 deaths were recorded last year.
Peru: Dengue Fever

Peruvian health authorities have issued an epidemiological alert as a preventive and control measure to guarantee care, clinical monitoring, and referral of patients affected by the increase in
dengue cases in
Peru. Up to epidemiological week 52 of 2025, 39,028 dengue cases were reported nationwide, with a national cumulative incidence rate of 114.75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
USA: Measles [Update]

In
Arizona, Maricopa County Department of Public Health has confirmed a case of
measles in an adult who resides in Maricopa County. The case was associated with overseas international travel and required hospitalization. In 2025, Arizona reported 220 measles cases.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Typhoid Fever
19 January 2026
Health authorities in the Popokabaka territory of Kwango province,
Democratic Republic of the Congo, are reporting a
typhoid fever outbreak. More than 350 cases have already been reported, including 44 cases of intestinal perforation and 11 deaths.
Cambodia: Dengue Fever [Update]

According to the
Cambodia Ministry of Health, National Dengue Surveillance System, as of 31 December 2025 (epidemiological week 52), a total of 63,016
dengue cases, including 79 deaths (case fatality rate: 0.13%), have been reported).

USA: Measles [Update]

Georgia state health officials are reporting on the first
measles case in the state in 2026 in a baby too young to receive routine measles vaccination. Georgia reported 10 measles cases reported in 2025.
USA: Pertussis [Update]

From the week ending January 4, 2025 through the week ending January 3, 2026, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (
U.S.). reports 28,783 cumulative
pertussis, or whooping cough cases.
Pakistan: Poliomyelitis [Update]

Officials with the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health, Islamabad, has confirmed a case of wild
poliovirus type 1 in District North Waziristan,
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This is the 31st wild poliovirus case reported in Pakistan in 2025.
