Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad
Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Take precautions against Mpox (also known as monkeypox) when travelling abroad
Mpox (also known as monkeypox) is a zoonotic disease caused by Mpox virus. Often found in tropical forest regions of Central and West Africa.
It is mainly transmitted by contact with infected animals, human-to-human transmission is limited. Incubation period is mainly from 6 to 13 days, symptoms are similar with Smallpox infection, but less severe.
Since 6 May 2022, multiple outbreaks wer
e reported in Europe and North America countries, and many patient are self-identified as bisexual or men who have sex with men. Travellers planning to travel in these areas should avoid contact
with infected person. Travellers returning from these areas shall notify the doctor to seek medical treatment and inform the travel situation if feeling unwell.

Australia: Mpox

The
Western Australia Department of Health reported seven
mpox cases during the past week, prompting health officials to advise the public to be alert for symptoms of the disease.
Argentina: Leptospirosis [Update]
1 June 2026
From the beginning of the year through April 18, the
Argentina Ministry of Health reported 109 cases of
leptospirosis (45 confirmed and 64 probable).
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Virus Disease [Update]

In a follow-up on the
Ebola Bundibugyo virus outbreak in the
Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Ministère de la Santé RDC reports the response continues in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. The number of cumulative confirmed Ebola cases has risen to 263 through May 29, with the bulk still in Ituri province (245 or 93%). Confirmed cases in North Kivu is now 15 and in South Kivu it is now 3.
Bangladesh: Measles [Update]

The Directorate General of Health Services in
Bangladesh recorded an additional 1,324 total
measles cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the country total to 70,936 since the outbreak began on March 15.
USA: Mpox [Update]
1 June 2026
Wisconsin health officials have reported the first mpox of 2026 and as of May 26, there have been five confirmed
mpox cases in southeastern and northern Wisconsin this year.
Nigeria: Cholera
1 June 2026
Since May 1, when the first suspected cholera case was reported from Shehuri South Ward, in the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council local government area in
Borno State, Nigeria, more than 3,000 cases of
cholera have been recorded across seven local government areas of Borno State in May, according to the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency. In addition, 37 fatalities have been reported in May.
USA: Vibrio Vulnificus Infection

The
Florida Department of Health has reported the first five
Vibrio vulnificus cases of the year in five counties: Hillsborough, Lee, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and St. Johns counties.
USA: Hantavirus Infection
1 June 2026
Arapahoe County Public Health reported a resident has tested positive for
hantavirus and is currently recovering well. The resident has no recent travel history and no known contact with any person associated with the Andes hantavirus outbreak on the m/v Hondius.
Uganda: Ebola Disease [Update]
1 June 2026
The
Uganda Ministry of Health reported today that two additional
Ebola Disease cases were confirmed in the capital city of Kampala. Both cases of Congolese nationals, one is a known contact of a previously confirmed case. This brings the total Ebola Disease cases in Uganda to nine, and one fatality.
Philippines: Dengue Fever [Update]
1 June 2026
Health officials in the city of Bacolod in the
Negros Island Region report a significant decrease in
dengue fever in the first five months of 2026.
Sri Lanka: Dengue Fever [Update]
1 June 2026
In a follow-up on the dengue fever outbreak in
Sri Lanka, the country’s National Dengue Control Unit now reports 32,071 total
dengue cases since the beginning of the year. In addition, officials report two additional dengue fatalities, children aged nine and 2 1/2 years, bringing the death toll to 17.
Senegal: Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever [Update]

The
Senegal Ministry of Health reported two additional confirmed
Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic fever cases from the Kafferine and Thies regions. This brings the total confirmed cases to four, with no deaths, reported from Fatick, Kafferine, Thies and Tambacounda regions.
Brazil: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of May 25th,
Minas Gerais registered 61,229 probable cases of
dengue fever. Of this total, 29,116 cases were confirmed for the disease, and there are 33 deaths under investigation. To date, there are 23 confirmed deaths from dengue fever in the state.
Brazil: Chikungunya Fever [Update]

Regarding
Chikungunya Fever, 12,587 probable cases of the disease have been registered, of which 7,862 have been confirmed, and four deaths are under investigation. To date, there is one confirmed death from the disease in the state.
Brazil: Zika Virus Infection [Update]

Regarding the
Zika virus, to date there are 42 probable cases and eight confirmed cases of the disease in the state. So far, there are no confirmed or suspected deaths.
Japan: Measles [Update]

According to data from the
Japan Institute for Health Security show that 498
measles cases have been reported through May 20, 2026. This is an increase of 298 percent compared to the same period in 2025 (125).
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Virus Disease [Update]

A case of
Ebola Virus Disease has been confirmed in the
Oïcha health zone, the main town of the Beni territory (North Kivu). The announcement was made by the Ministry of Health in the epidemiological report of May 24, 2026, published on Monday, May 25.
Australia: Murray Valley encephalitis virus infection

Northern Territory Health recently reported two recent infections of
Murray Valley encephalitis in the remote town of
Alice Springs, both were fatal cases.
Czech Republic: Diphtheria
28 May 2026
A three-year-old boy from the
Ostrava region died on Monday at the Motol University Hospital after contracting
diphtheria. The child was not vaccinated. He is the first child to die from diphtheria in the Czech Republic since 1969.
Bangladesh: Measles [Update]
28 May 2026
From March 15 through May 26, health officials in
Bangladesh report 66,023 total suspected
measles cases and 8,772 confirmed cases. Concerning deaths, 555 total deaths, including 88 confirmed measles deaths have been reported.
Democratic Republic of the Congo: Ebola Virus Disease [Update]

The epidemiological situation report published on May 25, 2026 by the
Democratic Republic of the Congo health authorities notes that
Ebola disease remains active in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu, with a cumulative total of 101 confirmed cases and 930 suspected cases recorded as of May 24, 2026.
