Southeast Asia: Dengue Fever

In Vietnam, nearly 36 900 cases of Dengue Fever including 33 deaths were reported in the country so far this year. The disease is spreading mostly in the southern region where Ho Chi Minh City, Ca Mau Province, Soc Trang Province and Tien Giang Province are hardest hit.
In Malaysia, 29 942 cases of Dengue Fever including 71 deaths were reported in the country so far this year.
In the Philippines, an outbreak of Dengue Fever affecting 118 people including one death was reported in Pangasinan Province.

Malaysia: Chikungunya Fever

In Malaysia, 1 703 cases of Chikungunya Fever were reported in the country so far this year. Most of the cases were reported in Johor, Melaka and Perak.

Singapore: Chikungunya Fever [update 3]

As of 4 September, the Ministry of Health of Singapore has reported 178 cases of Chikungunya Fever. More than half of these cases were local cases and 86 were imported cases.

Thailand: Travel Advice

In view of the latest situation in Thailand, the Security Bureau reminded Hong Kong residents who planned to visit there soon to keep themselves up-to-date on developments and consider adjusting or postponing their travel plans. Those who are already in Thailand should attend to their personal safety and avoid places of demonstrations or large gatherings of people.

USA: Avian Influenza, poultry

In USA, H5N8 low pathogenic Avian Influenza viruses were detected among birds in a farm in Idaho State.

Palau: Dengue Fever

In Palau, 31 cases of Dengue Fever have been reported since 1 August 2008.

Iraq: Cholera

In Iraq, 30 suspected cases of Cholera including 2 deaths were reported in the country. One of the deaths was reported in the southern Maysan Province.

Iran: Cholera

An outbreak of Cholera affecting 96 people including 4 deaths was reported in Iran. Tehran and Qom Provinces were seriously hit by the disease.

Africa: Cholera

In Kenya, an outbreak of Cholera which killed 2 people was reported in Rift Valley Province.
In Somalia, an outbreak of acute watery diarrhoea which killed at least 7 children was reported in Hiran.
In Zimbabwe, an outbreak of Cholera which killed 2 people was reported in Mashonaland East Province.

Uganda: Hepatitis E [update 2]

In Kitgum District of Uganda, 7 727 cases of Hepatitis E including 121 deaths have been reported since October last year.
