Indonesia: Avian Influenza, human
In Indonesia, a suspected fatal human case of Avian Influenza was reported. The victim whose occupation involved in slaughtering chickens suffered from pneumonia before his death.

Laos: Avian Influenza, poultry
In Xayaboury Province of Laos , a bird flu outbreak has been confirmed in Donngeun village of Xayaboury District where 8 dead chickens were found. The carcass was tested positive for Avian Influenza. All birds in these villages will be slaughtered to prevent the virus from spreading. The movement, consumption and sale of birds throughout the district has been banned until further notice.

In India, new Dengue Fever cases continued to be reported in West Bengal.

In Burkina Faso, 2 confirmed cases of Yellow Fever were reported in the health district of Ouahigouya. The initial case was a 7-month-old baby boy who recovered from the disease. The second case was a 6-year-old boy who died of the infection. Both cases were not vaccinated against Yellow Fever.

As of 29 October 2008, 250 026 cases of Dengue Fever including 181 deaths were reported in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro State.
In Peru, 4 348 cases of Dengue Fever were reported by the Loreto's Regional Health Office so far this year.
