Egypt: Avian Influenza, human

Egypt has reported a new case of Avian Influenza. The patient is a 8 year old girl from Fayum Governorate. She was hospitalized with symptoms on 3 March and is in a stable condition. It brings the total number of cases in Egypt to 47.

Philippines: Typhoid Fever [update 1)

In the Philippines, there were so far nearly 2 000 reported cases of Typhoid Fever in Calamba City, Laguna Province. Another outbreak with 217 suspected cases and one confirmed death due to the disease was reported in Iloilo City of Iloilo Province.

Africa: Cholera

In Namibia, an outbreak of Cholera which killed one people was reported in Ohangwena Region. 72 suspected cases were reported last week and 4 out of the 72 cases were confirmed as due to Cholera.
In Tanzania, the outbreak of Cholera continued to affect Arusha. There were 160 cases reported in the first two months of this year.
In Uganda, 70 cases of Cholera with 6 deaths have been reported in Arua District since the outbreak began in January this year.
In Mozambique, 4 452 cases of Cholera with 48 deaths have been reported since the outbreak began in October last year. 8 out of 11 provinces were affected by Cholera. The affected areas included Maputo, Maputo city, Manica, Sofala, Tete, Cabo Delgado, Gaza and Zambezia.
In Mashonaland Central Province of Zimbabwe, 4 more deaths due to Cholera were reported, making a total of 15 deaths reported so far.

Paraguay: Yellow Fever [update 5]

Paraguay has so far reported 24 confirmed cases of Yellow Fever including 8 deaths. Out of which, 4 cases were reported in San Pedro Department, 3 cases were reported in San Lorenz and one case was reported in Caaguazu Department.

Argentina: Yellow Fever

As of 13 March 2008, Argentina has confirmed 3 Yellow Fever cases. The most recent 2 cases came from Misiones province and both have no history of Yellow Fever vaccination.

Vietnam: Avian Influenza, poultry

In Vietnam, outbreaks of Avian Influenza among poultries continued to affect the country. New outbreaks were reported in Quang Tri, Tuyen Quang, Ninh Binh, Hanoi City, Vinh Long, Ha Nam and Quang Ninh.

Burkina Faso: Meningitis

Burkina Faso has identified 3 181 suspected cases of Meningococcal Meningitis in the first 9 weeks of this year, including 366 deaths. Fourteen districts are affected, 5 of which have declared a state of epidemic.

Thailand: Dengue Fever

The Ministry of Health in Thailand reported more than 4 000 people were infected with Dengue Fever in the first two months of this year, of whom 6 died.
