Take precautions against dengue fever when travelling abroad

Dengue fever is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. This includes various popular tourist destinations for Hong Kong people including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Travellers planning to travel in these areas should take precautions against the disease. Travellers returning from areas where dengue fever is prevalent should seek medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell and provide travel details to their doctors.

Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 14 Jun, Singapore’s National Environment Agency reported 3,040 Dengue cases.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Typhoid

15 June 2021

On 11 Jun, Provincial Minister of Health of Kwango, in western Democratic Republic of the Congo announced a Typhoid outbreak. More than 360 cases with 17 death were recorded since the beginning of this quarter.

Malaysia: Rabies [Update]

11 June 2021

Ministry of Health Malaysia reported one additional human rabies death in Sarawak. Four rabies cases has been reported in Sarawak in 2021.

Saudi Arabia: Middle East Respiratory Syndrome [Update]

11 June 2021

Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health reported a new case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), bringing the country totals to 9 in 2021.

Singapore: Dengue Fever [Update]

As of 5 Jun, Singapore’s National Environment Agency reported 2,875 Dengue cases.

Turkey: Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever

9 June 2021

Turkey reported 243 human cases of Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever infection with 13 fatalities in the first five months of the year.

Panama: Malaria

Panama reported an increase in malaria cases this year, 1,506 cases of malaria are recorded till end of May.
